Hello PURPOSE: Introduce some concepts, tools and insights for you to choose from PROCESS: covering some of the same material as is on the podcasts we did for the HCC. talk some, draw out your ideas some, interactive some - not a full course on managing change, rather an appetizer course PAYOFF: leave having with ideas of how to move on if you are stuck in any way, or how to help others around you Turn to your neighbor, introduce yourself, pick one change that is occuring for you or someone else that you hope to address
  2. To get us in the proper frame of mind I have a few road signs for you.
  3. SEGUE: Wouldn’t it be nice if the signs in our lives were as clear and hard to argue with as this one? If you remember only one thing out of everything I say and all that your neighbors say in the next hour I want you to recall this - YOU HAVE A CHOICE!
  4. Sometimes these points in life that occur, whether it is this economic meltdown, a death, losing a job, entering or leaving school, becoming an empty nester - whatever - are called “wake-up calls”. Everyone take a moment and think of your most recent wake-up call. Now hold onto that thought
  5. Hand out Loss & Gain Exercise Thinking of your most recent wake-up call.. Try to plot your reaction to the changes involved on this curve. How long did you spend knowing change was coming, anticipating change? When did it really hit you - change was now your new reality? When did you begin to move into your new normal? When did you really feel “there” - if you are “there” yet. Major change takes 2 years and the more changes you are experiencing at once the longer it might take to really feel you’ve become settled into the new
  6. So let’s recall the Choice Model -- You have to make a choice - what will your choice be? QUESTIONS? SEGUE: The next “D” in our series is D for DREAM so let’s look at dreaming
  7. Just for fun, imagine that you had a genie in the bottle to give you 3 other lives. My other lives include archeologist, female Indiana Jones, running an outdoor camp or retreat center, or being a pediatrician. Take a couple of minutes to share your list with your neighbor(s) So moving right along, I know we are only spending a very short time on each of these steps You’ve decided to be proactive, you’ve done some dreaming now lets address the 3rd “D” D for Declutter, clearing out things that are in your way
  8. Let’s do a very quick list of all those things that are in our way how quickly do you think we can get to 25 items? Mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, spatially,
  9. And you’ve heard the message - don’t touch anything more than once Many resources now for getting organized. My favorite is Getting Things Done by David Allen, but there is Julie Morgenstern, Daytimer, and others
  10. For our last exercise we are going to turn feedback on its head and instead practice feedforward.
