1. Iso 9001 companies list
"I have a dream..." - Martin Luther King
"Fore-score and seven years ago..." - Lincoln
"Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears" - Mark Anthony
"I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is
out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth." - JFK
These quotes will be remembered for all time because they represent someone's vision
and willingness to put a stake in the ground and rally the troops behind them. The people
are the epitome of what we call executive sponsors. As the leader goes, so then shall we.
When it comes to successfully implementing and maintaining ISO 9001 certification, we
cannot stress enough how important it is for the senior-most executive in the organization
to give his unwavering support for the ISO 9001 program.
We are not suggesting that ISO 9001 certification is extremely difficult to obtain or
maintain. We are simply pointing out that the leader must walk the walk and talk the talk.
A company that has embarked on the immensely rewarding journey of obtaining ISO
9001 certification is only fooling itself if its efforts are not championed from the very top.
Losing executive sponsorship can happen overnight with a change in leadership or it can
happen gradually with a loss of focus or faith. Regardless, the last thing you want is for
your company to be ISO 9001 certified on paper but to be going through the motions due
to lack of executive sponsorship. Doing so is only paying lip service to the world's most
popular international standard.
Should you (an employee of the company or someone with an interest in the company)
ever sense that the ISO 9001 sponsorship is wavering, speak to your company's
designated ISO Management Representative. This individual must be a member of the
Management team as per the ISO 9001 standard's specifications and he will be able to
'take the temperature' and determine what action must be taken.
It could be argued that perhaps the quality management system was not properly
implemented or maybe the wagon has slid off the tracks over time. If so, perhaps the
Management Representative is ineffective or not up to the task? Or perhaps there is
internal dissent or politics which in turn causes senior management to question ISO
9001? Maybe the company is on the verge of being acquired and ISO 9001 is being
questioned (see my article on this topic)? Either way, the importance of Internal
Communication (section 5.5.3) and Management Commitment (section 5.1) is clearly
stated when referring to the standard. As long as the Quality Policy and the overall ISO
2. 9001 program is discussed in management review meetings at planned intervals, there
should be no surprises about its health and standing.
