A PEDESTRIAN SPEED ACQUISITION EXPERIMENT BASED
ON RFID
Abstract:
Currently RFID technology is typically applied to toll the electronic toll collection; there
are no precedents to apply frequency identification technology to speed collection. Pedestrian is
the largest traffic group in China, but the current domestic technology for pedestrians’ speed
collecting is also a considerable lack. RFID-based Pedestrian speed collection with a reader,
locators and tags will be a good technical reserve. With more data and more accurate pedestrian
speed, traffic managers can be provided a good reference. Here in this paper a speed
measurement system based on RFID is established to measure the pedestrian speed.
Existing system:
In existing, there is no system defined for measuring pedestrian speeds. Since measuring
pedestrian speed in a area helps in regulating traffic caused due to pedestrians we go for the
proposed system.
Proposed system:
In the proposed system, a system based on RFID is established. The RFID receiver is
with the pedestrian. There are two receiver sections which are interconnected. Once the
pedestrian reaches the first receiver, the information of the tag is read and immediately the timer
is initialized in the microcontroller. Once the pedestrian reaches the next receiver immediately
the timer is stopped and the speed is calculated as the distance between the receivers is already
known. Here the system is established considering a straight path for the pedestrian.
