1. What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product
and why?

2. IPC Media
I would like to use IPC Media as my publishing company, it’s based in the UK and the
publishers already publish NME magazine, my magazine is similar to NME therefore
IPC would already have knowledge on how to make these magazines successful so
would have no problem publishing mine. Looking at the brands IPC already publish, it
seems they have merged the groups ‘Young Men & Music’ together as there is only
one music magazine. There seems to be room for my magazine and I think with my
magazine added, music could be in it’s separate category because at the moment it
suggests only young men can read music magazines. The only disadvantage is if they
put my magazine underneath ‘Young men & music’ it could confuse the target
audience of my magazine being both male and female.
3. Bauer Media
I would like to use Bauer Media as my second option of publishing company, it already
publishes Q, Mojo and Kerrang! So it would already have knowledge on how to make
these music magazines successful so would have no problem publishing mine. The
only problem being as they already publish 3 music magazines whereas IPC Media only
publish 1, it could cause problems adding another similar indie rock magazine to
Bauer.
4. In conclusion, I would chose IPC Media. This is
because they only publish one music magazine
whereas Bauer Media are already publishing 3,
adding another one to that could cause more
competition and the magazine could be
unsuccessful. IPC is also a British company
therefore it benefits my British magazine. I also like
the success of NME, the fact that it is doing very
well with E-Media using sites such as Youtube,
Twitter, Facebook and even having their own NME
App on Apple product to promote the brand is
useful.
