1. Science & Engineering
Education
Higher education is expensive. Most
students cannot afford school without
grants or scholarships, especially in
developing countries.
ARCHES
2. In particular, low-income students
have little chances to succeed. Among
those, young women and minorities
are more vulnerable.
ARCHES
3. Recently, we have started a
programme to support talented young
people interested in pursuing
advanced degrees in the area of
science and engineering.
ARCHES
4. The first phase of this programme is
devoted to India, where ARCHES has
established collaborations with several
academic centres in various States.

6. India is indeed the growth opportunity
of this decade but there is a wide
disparity in access to higher education
across the country.
ARCHES
7. Moreover, the rapidly expanding
demand for higher education
constitutes an additional challenge for
the quality of the Indian higher
education system.
ARCHES
8. Thanks to its high networking
capabilities, ARCHES is uniquely
qualified:
to help build the links between
funding and quality in higher
education
to facilitate the access to higher
education for disadvantaged groups
