This presentation discusses cracking wireless network security using Backtrack Linux and aircrack-ng. It requires Backtrack 4 or later running in VMware with a wireless network card that supports monitor mode and packet injection. The demonstration will show cracking WEP encryption and WPA-PSK encryption keys from captured wireless data packets using aircrack-ng.

3. Backtrack Backtrack is a Live Linux distribution based on SLAX that has been aggressively modified into a comprehensive offensive penetration testing tool. BackTrack 4 Beta was released on February 11, 2009, with the biggest change being the move to Debian. Currently BackTrack consists of more than 300 different up-to-date tools Downloadable from http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack_download.html Has different option ie live CD, USB, VMWARE. Here VMWARE is used.

4. Network Interface Card Needs 2 functionality for this 1) Interface should be supported 2) Should be able to come into monitor mode. 3) Should be able to inject packets(not used here).
