The Student Involvement Community Service Center (CSC) provides leadership opportunities for students through volunteer programs and activities. The CSC recruits and places students in volunteer positions, promotes service opportunities, and coordinates with campus departments and community agencies. The budget benefits students by allowing them to gain experience, build relationships, and help their community through organized service events like MLK Day of Service and a project for freshmen. Funding also supports distributing a volunteer guide and informational programming about opportunities.
1. COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTER
Budget Summary for MSICSL
Program Description:
The Student Involvement Community Service Center (CSC) provides leadership
development opportunities for students by offering them the chance to participate in
volunteer programs and activities in various community settings. The CSC is
responsible for recruiting and placing students in volunteer positions, promoting service
opportunities to student organizations and to all undergraduate and graduate students,
programming community and campus service events such as MLK day of service,
coordinating with various departments on campus, working collaboratively with faculty
involved in community service and service-learning opportunities, and maintaining close
relationships with community agencies.
In addition, the CSC works with student organizations and Halsell Hall to encourage
volunteering and connect students with opportunities for service through service events,
informational programming (volunteer service fairs, etc.), and by building relationships
with on-campus and off-campus partners.
Describe how this budget benefits students (themes, initiatives, or sub-categories):
Students who participate in service through the Community Service Center have the
opportunity to gain the following from their experience: network with professionals in
their prospective fields of employment, learn about job opportunities, expand their
awareness of people from different backgrounds, build relationships with different
community members, attain a sense of accomplishment, learn fundraising and strategic
planning techniques, help the community, and have an impact on someone’s life. During
special service project events, students have the opportunity to complete service with
academic and professional faculty.
The CSC budget includes funding for service initiatives such as the “Leave it to Beavers”
community service project for incoming freshmen during Connect Week, Martin Luther
King Day of Service, the Volunteer Resource Guide distributed at START informational
fairs and other informational fairs and events throughout the year.
