Golda Digger provided a statement to police about finding her husband Simon P. Ano dead. She described waking up in the morning and going over financial records with Simon's friend and business partner Lyan Vios. They then discovered Ima running out of the room upset, saying Simon was dead. Golda was distraught and waited outside the room while Vios went in. Police questions focused on the relationships between Golda, Simon, and Vios, as well as Simon's life insurance and recent changes to his will making Golda the sole beneficiary.
1. RE: Case 08-0012 SIMON P. ANO (murder)
Home of Simon P. Ano
TRANSCRIBED ORAL STATEMENT OF Golda Digger
August 17, 2007; 2:05 PM
Present: Officer Sam Jones (star 246) and Golda Digger
Officer Jones: This statement is taken regarding the August 17, 2007 death of Simon P.
Ano, 1254 Beyond Hope Street in Enigma. It is now 2:05 PM, August 17, 2007. We are
in the kitchen of the home of Simon P. Ano. I am detective Sam Jones, star 246, of the
Enigma police department, and we are recording a statement from an occurrence
witness, Golda Digger, the wife of Simon P. Ano.
Mrs. Digger, do you understand that we are recording this interview? You do not have to
make a statement. You are not under arrest, and you are entitled to have a lawyer here
if you want. If you have a question or do not understand something we are talking about,
you should stop me and ask. You can stop the interview any time you want. Do you
understand?
Golda: Yes.
Jones: You understand that all of this will be transcribed – that is, it will be written out
from the recording – and you will have an opportunity to read the typewritten statement,
and make corrections or additions later on, if you want. OK?
Golda: OK.
Jones: I am very sorry for your loss Mrs. Digger. I am sorry that we have to talk to you
now, but we need to find out as much as we can. Are you ready to begin?
Golda: Please, can we just get this done as quickly as possible? There are things that I
need to do to take care of Simon.
Q: [Jones]: OK, then, let’s begin. Please state your name and address and your
relationship to Mr. Ano.
A: [Golda]: My name is Golda Digger and I am the wife of Simon. I live here with my
husband at 1254 Beyond Hope Street in Enigma.
Q: Can you tell me what happened? If I need any clarification, I will ask later or as we go
through the interview.
A: Well, this morning, Mr. Vios and I got up early to look over the books. Mr. Vios still
gets royalties from his music and other things like that. So we were looking at the books
and discussing household expenses. We finished a little after 8:00 AM and started
downstairs to talk to Simon about his concert performance in December.
Q: What happened then?
A: Well, we saw Ima run out of the room looking very upset. Mr. Vios asked her what
was wrong and she said Simon was dead. I couldn’t believe what I heard. I don’t know
2. what I will do without him. I started crying. I thought I was going to faint. But, Mr. Vios
grabbed me and helped me the rest of the way down the stairs.
Q: What happened then?
A: Well, I wanted to go see Simon, but Mr. Vios told me to wait outside while he went in.
He helped me to the sofa and left with Ima.
Q: How long did you wait outside his room?
A: I don’t really know. I was crying and then maybe I fell asleep. The next thing I knew
the police were banging on the door. Mr. Vios came out of the room and let them in.
Everything has been a blur. I just can’t believe he is dead. I don’t know what I am going
to do. When can I see Simon?
Q: They have already taken him to Enigma Eternal Rest, Mrs. Digger. You will be able to
go see him shortly. Can you tell me Mr. Vios’ relationship with your husband?
A: Yea, he is his business partner and a very good friend of the family. Mr. Vios has
known Simon for years and helped him when he was playing concerts and making CDs.
Mr. Vios is the one who set up the concert at Carnegie Hall in 2000. And he tries to
encourage Simon every day. See, Simon has been rather depressed since the accident.
Except for the past couple of months.
Q: And what about your relationship with Mr. Vios? How would you describe that?
A: What do you mean? What are you saying?
Q: Nothing, Mrs. Digger. I am just trying to get as much information as I can. How would
you describe your relationship with Mr. Vios?
A: Well, I consider him a friend. We both love Simon and want what’s best for him. We
spend a lot of time together, taking care of Simon. Sometimes Simon wants us to go to
the theater or concerts together so we can tell him what is happening on the music
scene. We agree to go just because Simon asks us to.
Q: How would you describe your relationship with your husband?
A: Oh, we love each other very much. We have a very happy relationship.
Q: What kind of mood has your husband been in lately, Mrs. Digger?
A: Well, for the first time in years, he has been very happy. For a while there, I didn’t
know what I was going to do. Poor Simon didn’t think he wanted to live anymore. He
used to beg me to end his life. But, I just couldn’t do that. I loved him too much. So, I
would spend a lot of time trying to cheer him up. Nothing seemed to work, though. That
is, until Lyan, I mean Mr. Vios, found out about Soundbeam. After that, Simon has been
real happy again. I just don’t know how he could be dead. He was so happy last night
when I went to bed.
Q: So, Mr. Ano was awake when you went to bed last night?
3. A: Yes, I told him good night and he smiled and I kissed him. That’s the last time I will
ever get to kiss him, isn’t it, detective?
Q: I am sorry, Mrs. Digger. Do you feel like continuing?
A: Sure, go ahead if it won’t take much longer.
Q: OK, what time did you go to bed last night?
A: It was about midnight, I think. Yea, I remember the cuckoo clock chiming. It was right
after midnight.
Q: And, you say he was awake when you looked in on him?
A: Well, yes. Wait, no, I had to wake him up. So I woke him up and told him goodnight
and then I went to bed.
Q: And when did Mr. Vios leave?
A: I don’t know. I left them talking and I just went to bed.
Q: So, you don’t know what time he left?
A: That’s what I just said. I don’t know for sure what time he left.
Q: Do you think he could have spent the night at the house, Mrs. Digger?
A: No, of course not. That’s ridiculous. Why would he do that?
Q: So, after you went to bed, you don’t know anything that happened downstairs?
A: No, I told you, I don’t know.
Q: Mrs. Digger, what time did Mr. Vios come to your room this morning?
A: Um, it was about 6:00 AM. We had quite a bit of information to go over so he came to
the house real early. He does that when we are going to go over the books.
Q: Did he say he checked in with Ano before he went to your room?
A: No, Simon likes to sleep later and so Mr. Vios just comes straight to my room and we
start working on the books.
Q: And what time did the two of you come downstairs?
A: It was about 7, I think. Are we almost finished?
Q: Just a few more questions, Ma'am. Do you know if Mr. Ano has a life insurance
policy?
A: Well, certainly.
4. Q: What about a will?
A: Yes, my husband was a very wealthy man.
Q: Do you know who his beneficiary is?
A: That would be me, of course. Just last month he called in his attorney and changed
me to be his sole beneficiary.
Q: And who was before you?
A: Well, he had some of his estate going to charities. But, then after all the hard work I
have done since his injury, he thought I could do a better job of managing all the money
and so he changed his will.
Q: Do you know anyone who would want to kill your husband, Mrs. Digger?
A: No, detective. Everyone loved Simon. I just can’t believe anyone would want to kill
him.
Q: We found a cell phone in Mr. Ano’s room. Do you know who it belongs to?
A: Was it hot pink with a lot of ruby red bling on it?
Q: Yes, it was. Do you know who it belongs to?
A: Yea, it belongs to Ima. But, I don’t know why it was in his room. She carries the stupid
thing with her everywhere.
Q: Okay. I believe those are all the questions I have for you right now. Here is my card,
and if you think of anything you forgot to tell me, please call me, anytime.
Digger: Oh, I will. And please find out what happened to him soon. It’s just not right that
anyone would murder him and get away with it.
Jones: We have a full force of detectives working on this case, Mrs. Digger. Thank you
for helping me under these circumstances.
I have read the above statement, and it is a true and accurate transcript of the interview I
gave on the above date and time.
