The emss scheme is not another safety passport scheme, but an umbrella for existing passports. It makes use of the considerable knowledge and experience of the people within the organisation to audit and approve existing safety passports, which already meet the industries exacting standards for safety health and environment. The scheme has a second constituent, which is the Competency Logbook. This enables the holder to maintain a portable competency training record that he/she can keep updated themselves. This provides the holder with the flexibility to improve their standards in the best way for themselves and gives the client the confidence to know that the card being carried shows that holder has met the essential minimum standard that they helped to drive. The emss system takes the commitment to SHE management and performance a step further, by allowing time and funds that would have been used to put operatives through a multitude of very similar passport schemes involving much unnecessary duplication, to be better used for more relevant and specific SHE training requirements for the workforce.

Future Proofing…
Now that the scheme has been adopted by the majority of sites, we plan to work closely
with all major client and contractor groups (UK wide). Using the resources of NESHEP
and the EMSS Social Enterprise to raise the bar on health & safety to ensure that
existing schemes are improved and meet the standards required by the industry.
It has been pointed out by many of you that some of the existing schemes fall short of
industry requirements.
To harness the input from industry and ensure the continued development of the
EMSS Scheme a web forum has been set up to ensure the industry gets what it needs.
