5. The National Committee for
the Intangible Cultural Heritage
Shall adopt and devise the strategy for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural
heritage of the Republic of Serbia;
Shall take an active part in harmonizing the national legislation with international
standards so as to include the field of intangible cultural heritage;
Shall adopt proposals for the inscription of intangible heritage elements into the
National Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage;
Shall supervise the implementation of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding
of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and draft annual reports on the implementation of
the Convention to the UNESCO National Committee;
Shall adopt and supervise a national system for the implementation of
the UNESCO programme Living Heritage Guardians;
Shall supervise the drafting and implementation of projects, surveys,
studies and other documents in the field of the safeguarding of
intangible cultural heritage
6. Center for the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the
Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade
Shall collect, document, archive and conserve
the data on intangible cultural heritage obtained
from committees / work groups on the regional
level, as well as from professional and scientific
institutions, research and documentation
centers, expert, individuals and the relevant
non-governmental organizations;
The Centre shall compile and maintain the
inventory of intangible cultural heritage;
The entire documentation on a nominated
element of intangible cultural heritage shall be
permanently preserved in the Centre in
accordance with the relevant legislation and
shall serve as a database of the intangible
cultural heritage in the Republic of Serbia.
7. Regional coordinators
Shall implement activities aimed at discovering and identifying elements of
intangible cultural heritage within a region;
Shall help to establish cooperation among communities, groups, individuals,
experts, professional centres and research institutes with the aim of collecting,
documenting, archiving and conserving heritage-related data;
In collaboration with the Centre of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, they shall
take necessary measures to sensitize communities, groups and individuals to
the importance and value of their intangible cultural heritage, as well as to the
importance and value of the Convention;
Shall collect and submit proposals to the Commission for the Inscription of
Intangible Heritage Elements into the National Register
8. The National Registry of the Intangible
Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Serbia
The National Committee for Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of
Serbia in June 2012 adopted the List of 27 elements of intangible cultural
heritage for their registration into the National Inventory

15. Promotion and Education
Immediately following the ratification of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible
Cultural Heritage, its promotion was organized in Zlakusa, Sirogojno and Kremna with the aim of
drawing attention to the diversity and importance of intangible cultural heritage in Serbia.
16. Promotion of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
of the Republic of Serbia
The conference featured a presentation of the activities aimed at the implementation of the
Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage undertaken in Serbia, as well
as a presentation of the proposals for the inscription into the National Register submitted by
regional coordinators and other experts and collaborators.

17. The First Regional Seminar on the Intangible Cultural Heritage was held in Sirogojno late in
2010. Along with experts from Serbia, it was attended by representatives of the UNESCO
Venice Office and Bulgarian and Croatian experts.

The Fifth Annual Meeting of the South East European Experts Network on the
Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage was held at the Ethnographic Museum in
Belgrade in May 2011, under the title From National Implementation to Regional
Collaboration.
