Testimonials
“Stephen Dodd spent 12 months with us leading our diabetes and NICE guidance rollout initiatives. His work
was excellent and of a high quality in all areas. His clinical knowledge helped him to gain credibility with senior
clinicians very quickly. His economic and finance knowledge enabled him to build convincing health economic
cases for change, and this helped him to mobilise over 100 people in all areas of diabetes across South
London. He has demonstrated strong skills in large scale programme management and is able to deliver high
quality work to tight deadlines. I recommend Stephen to my colleagues in commissioning and clinical
networks, in particular for work where both clinical and economic fluency are desirable to effect change”
Chris Streather, Managing Director, South London Health Innovation Network
“Stephen Dodd spent several months with us analysing our medium term clinical and financial viability, our
model of care and the robustness of our general and quality governance arrangements. Though challenging,
the process was professionally led by Stephen, and we were delighted to be awarded Foundation Trust status
by Monitor at the conclusion of it. As an organisation, we consider ourselves world class in what we do, but I
believe that the work that Stephen did helped raise our expectations and capabilities to a new level. I would
recommend him and his work to Boards of NHS organisations aspiring to be leading providers of healthcare.”
Ken Hoskisson, Chairman, The Walton Centre NHS foundation trust
Managing Director, Stephen Dodd has over twenty years senior executive experience in
public and private healthcare and related science-driven sectors.
He graduated from the University of Oxford with degrees in chemistry and pharmacology,
has completed postgraduate studies in medical immunology at Kings College London, and
has a master's degree in business administration, MBA, from Berkeley, in the United States.
He gained international management experience in organisations that include Accenture and
General Healthcare Group, and has a wide knowledge of the NHS from his time at Monitor,
South London Health Innovation Network and the Royal Society of Medicine. He has worked
at a number of leading NHS trusts including Great Ormond Street, Guys and St Thomas’,
South Tees, The Walton Centre and Northamptonshire Mental Health.
This combination of clinical, financial and health system expertise has proven valuable to
NHS organisations looking to make significant improvements to local population health and
to the effectiveness of their healthcare provision.

CLIENT OFFERINGS 2015/16
1. Population health improvement in local health economies and for NHS staff
 Secondary and tertiary prevention in the diabetes and metabolic syndrome
disease cluster: Both the 5 Year Forward View and Planning Guidance identify the
importance of secondary prevention of ill health in order to reduce disability and
mortality in older age and to slow the ever rising cost of healthcare. Chronic
conditions of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney and liver
diseases and prostate disorders (all of which are co-risk factors or co-morbidities)
account for much of the challenge, and all are characterised by asymptomatic
development in the 40-60 year old population. I work with local health economies to
implement innovative early diagnosis, early intervention and empowered self-
management pathways to improve health and reduce system costs. This includes
bringing the work of academic clinicians into common practice and the spread of
NICE guidance. NHS work place health schemes that utilise these principles can
also be designed and implemented.
 Mental and physical ill health: The importance of good mental health for effective
patient self-management of chronic conditions and the increased risk of physical
illness arising from poor mental health has been emphasised in the 5 Year Forward
View. I work with NHS and Local Authority organisations to design and implement
programmes for early diagnosis, early intervention and empowered self-management
of mental illness, with particular emphasis on physical health risks and co-
morbidities.
2. Supporting the strategic development of NHS healthcare providers and LHEs
 Planning: Both the 5 Year Forward View and the Dalton Review have provided
outline policy frameworks for the future shape of robust, clinically and financially
viable healthcare providers and local health economies (LHEs). I work with Boards of
providers and commissioners to help steer a course through this complex policy area
to identify viable opportunities, to provide independent assurance on their own plans
or to lead key work programmes. Clients value the fact that I have worked for the
National Bodies at a senior level as well as operationally within the NHS system.
 Integrated Governance: As organisations develop and diversify, first class quality
and financial governance becomes ever more critical. Using best practice guidance
developed by Monitor and other bodies, I work with Boards to benchmark their
existing practices, provide independent assurance, identify improvement
opportunities or lead change programmes, as clients require. The emphasis is on the
early identification and mitigation of current and future risks.
3. Driving forward your own priority programmes
Utilising first class skills in process, change, IT and communications management to
deliver your own key service development or provider development projects.
