• Lads magazines: men aged 17-25
• Woman’s own-young independent women whose interests may include
shopping, fashion, beauty and career
• People who like camping- e.g. Motor Caravan Magazine
• Elderly people- Gardening magazines, the railway magazine
It is clear to see that IPC have associated with a wide range of target
audiences over the years. This may be why it is a popular and successful
publisher.
3. 2) Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher for a new music
magazine? What sorts of genres of music/types of magazines
might they be likely to publish? Why might alternative publishers
like Bauer be appropriate?
• IPC could be an appropriate publisher for a new music magazine
because it covers a wide range of target audiences so would therefore
be able to identify interests in music effectively.
• They would be likely to publish genres such as pop, indie/rock, hip-hop,
RnB and classical.
• Alternative publishers like Bauer may be appropriate because they
specialise in particular magazines rather than IPC who are more
general.
