TRANSFORMATION
#1
#1
THE PRESENT (VOLUNTEER) INTRAPRENEURIAL SYSTEM ISN’T GOOD TO PEOPLE
BTW, CONSCRIBED INTRAPRENEURSHIP IS AN OXYMORON
THERE’S EITHER NO MONEY OR SUPPORT OR A BUNCH OF
‘KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD’ PROGRAMS
INTRAPRENEURS ARE DEFINITELY PUNISHED DUE TO DISENCENTIVES
(CONSIDERED DESERTERS)
TRANSFORMATION
WE’RE STILL NOT THERE
INTRAPRENEURS AREN’T DESERTERS,
YOU’RE NEEDED CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS
WE’VE APPARANTLY STARTED THE TRANSFORMATION,
REALIZING CULTURE TRUMPS EVERYTHING
THE CULTURE APPROACH SAYS TO START WITH PEOPLE,
WELCOMING INTRAPRENEURIAL ATTITUDE & BEHAVIOR
NOT GUARANTEED INNOVATIONS OR INNOVATION PRACTICES
TRANSFORMATION
IT’S TRENDING THE RIGHT WAY
#1
#2
ALL INNOVATION METHODS ARE BECOMING EVIDENCE—BASED,
MIX OF RESEARCH FINDINGS & JUDGEMENT (DT, CD/LS’UP, JTBD, DI, OI, ETC.)
THEY’RE TOOLS TO HELP US (& OUR SPONSORS!) MAKE DECISIONS
ON WHAT’S BEST FOR THE CUSTOMER & THE COMPANY (NOT THE TECHNOLOGY)
THERE’S NO POINT IN OBSESSING ABOUT A PARTICULAR METHOD
NO ONE’S GIVING OUT BELTS. IT’S ABOUT SURVIVING IN A STREET FIGHT
COMPANIES MIXING DIFFERENT METHODS INTO THEIR OWN FIGHTING STYLE
MIXED MARTIAL METHODS
EVIDENCE-BASED
THE COMMON LANGUAGE OF TRANSFORMATION
Dave Snowden, Julian Birkinshaw, Mary Meeker
Learn:
To scale talking to customers (AI/ML)
That controlling is dead. And it isn’t inspiring,
purpose is
That to play, you must network, to win you
must collaborate
That to collaborate, you MUST bring data,
the only platform that matters

Complex platform alliances
fighting for customer attention
HERE is a great e.g. of an Advantaged Network
Co-creating with the network (& the platforms to scale):
• Customers
•Rev-Share Communities
•Crowdfunding
•Startups
•Startup Studios (SU’P/VC in one)
•EIRs (Invite entrepreneurs in residence)
•IORs (Place intrapreneurs out of residence)
• Accelerators/VC’s
• Partners, Coo-petitors, Universities, Gov., etc.
WE’RE ENTERING A WORLD IN WHICH WE
DON’T KNOW WHAT WE DON’T KNOW
"The real voyage of discovery consists
not in seeking new landscapes, but in
having new eyes." - Marcel Proust
ADVANTAGED NETWORKS = OI 2.0
‘The world is your lab’ becomes ‘The world is a co-lab’
#3
DUE TO SHEAR # OF IDEAS & VARYING STAGES OF DEV’PMT, LARGE CO’S
ENCOURAGING ‘ISLANDS OF GOOD’ WHERE DECISIONS ARE BASED ON EVIDENCE
DISTRIBUTED SYSTEM OF INTRA-VC’ING (STAGED-RISK FUNDING & SUPPORT):
A) STARTUP SCHOOLS W/ MICRO-FUNDING: EVIDENCE IS DESIRE TO LEARN
B) CHALLENGE/PRIZE COMPETITIONS: EVIDENCE IS OPPORTUNITY
C) MANAGER ANGELS/ EMPLOYEE CROWDFUNDING: (IDEA STAGE)
D) FUNDING BOARDS (ACCELERATORS): EVIDENCE IS MARKET VALIDATION
E) AD-HOC BU & CORPORATE FUNDING: (HAVEN’T YET TIED TO ’FARM’ SYSTEM)

Notas do Editor

  1. How is everyone doing? I’d like to start by thanking the conference organizers. Wouldn’t you say they’ve done a great job? Standing round of applause? Also wanted to thank all the people that I interviewed for this talk, many here at the conference Also wanted to thank some people that have been big influencers of my thinking, and the trends I mention, for that matter
  2. Quick overview of my resume, since I’m getting pretty old, divided into two ages Let me highlight my Qualcomm experience ...I started out helping the rich, top down business development stuff, then something hit me over the head, and around 2006, I decided to help the poor, become a platform for bottoms up, employee innovation ... I questioned why something as staid as industrial management had figured out that the secret to higher productivity was employee involvement in continuous improvement, yet, innovation remained an elistic practice (with very little talk of entreprenuership) Now, this really transformed me.. Here’s a picture of me during my last days of ‘top down, elitist business development.. Here’s a picture of me after deciding to help the bottom of the corporate pyramid fight for their ideas - From your typical sycophant, to an obstreperous anarchist... Discovered the hard way that intrapreneurs are the red-haired stepchildren of corporations… but that we’ll be allright.. Now look carefully, this is the framing device for the rest of the talk.. Hint.. This isnt’t really just me.. It’s all of you!
  3. So here are the find trends that research revealed ….I’ll cover pretty quickly to leave time for questions ...#1 is the most important, in case you fall asleep
  4. Convergent disruptions will require larger, more complex & equitable collaborations to innovate This is a more difficult endeavor and not everyone will be as forwarding looking or up to the task Precisely why we think this era’s new source of competitive advantage will be Advantaged OI Networks
