Many universities are making
substantial in new technologies for
teaching purposes. The increasing
     east of use and improved
   presentational and interactive
 features of technologies such as
 the World Wide Web are leading
many academics to use technology
 for teaching for the first time in a
 significant manner (Bates, 1997).
Some characteristics of the development in teaching
and learning in higher education according to
Bates, 1999:

•Increased flexibility and access to learning,
resulting in new mancets being reached, and in
particular, the lifelong learner market.

•The use of multimedia to develop psycho-motor
and intellectual skills development, including
problem-solving and decision making.
•The use internet technology to develop
knowledge management and collaborative
learning skills.

•The use of internet to develop global,
multi-cultural courses and problems.
Why use technology?

•To improve access to education and training
•To improve the quality of learning
•To reduce the costs of education
•To improve the cost-effectiveness of education

•Understand that there are many different

The increasing east of use and improved presentational and interactive features of technologies such as the World Wide Web are leading many academics to use technology for teaching for the first time in a significant manner (Bates, 1997).
