For many married same-sex couples, filing jointly is a new experience that many never thought would be possible. This is the first year same-sex spouses will be able to file federal taxes like any other married couple. Legally married couples that are recognized in a state or foreign country must file their 2013 federal income tax return using either the married filing jointly or married filing separately filing status.
