This is a pupil presentation called the S1 Citizenship Challenge. 2010 the theme was Latin America. Pupils of S1 Hamilton Grammar were assigned a country to research and present back. The class winners progress to the Year Group Final. This was exemplified as good practice for Curriculum for Excellence when it was S1 African Adventure.
5. Like Australians, Argentineans like eating beef and drinking wine. The most popular way to eat beef is the "asado" (barbecued beef ribs), whereas whole sides of beef or kid may be spit roasted for large gatherings. Also popular are "empanadas" which are crescent-shaped pies usually filled with meat or corn, and "Locro," a type of stew made with corn, beans, potatoes and peppers. The national drink is "mate" (pronounced mat-A), a green tea made from the leaves of “yerba mate”, a national herb. City people dress in garments similar to those worn by Australians. Rural workers may wear the traditional gaucho clothing: a wide brimmed hat, a poncho, and a loose pair of trousers tucked into boots. 7. Wildlife In the far north close to Bolivia, two interesting plants can be found: quenoa can be found in the valleys, and llareta in the high altitude puna above the tree line. The Andean Condor is the largest carrion eating bird in the World. It is found throughout the country. Birds of prey are common in the mountains: buzzards, eagles, hawks and kestrels. They prey on rodents, vizcachas (like a cross between a rabbit and a squirrel) and chinchillas. Vicuñas are South American came lids, superbly adapted to the high altitude with their fine but warm fur, their domesticated cousins alpacas are herded by the Indians This is a Vizcacha !! We think it looks like a rabbit with a squirrels tail Cousins !!!

17. People ! Most Argentines are people who have migrated from the middle and upper middle classes, although there are a large number of poor Argentines who have migrated to neighboring countries. The most popular immigration destinations in America are: USA , Chile , Paraguay , Brazil , Uruguay , Bolivia and Canada , but other communities' stationed in Venezuela , Mexico , Peru , Colombia , Ecuador and Costa Rica . In Europe, Spain and Italy have large communities but also in the United Kingdom , France and Germany . There are also significant communities in Israel and Australia . According to official estimates there are 600,000 worldwide Argentine, according to estimates by the International Organization for Migration are about 806,369 since 2001. It is estimated that their descendants would be around 1,900,000.
