Spain

Intended for Grades 7 & 8
Technology Integration
• Rationale
   – Teaching Spanish includes teaching the
language, geography, culture, and history. This
presentation focuses on teaching the geography of
Spain, which is one of the first countries taught to students
learning the language. Through technology, students can
research the country, the different cities located in the
country, and attractions that can be seen in each of these
cities. Since students are auditory or visual learners, this
presentation will help them to get a better understanding
of the country through videos, pictures, and audio. They
will also gain a more realistic view of the beauty of the
country through these videos and pictures.
Evaluation of Internet Content
There are many sites on the internet that
contain false information, whether it be on
purpose or accidental. The internet sources used
for this presentation were all from reputable
sources and were looked over to make sure the
information was up to date and reliable.
Internet Blog
• Tour of Spain Blog
• Learning about the history of Spain is important
when studying the country. This blog gives the
  students background on different historical
attractions that can be seen in major cities,
  including Madrid, Seville, and Salamanca.
• This blog also allows students to experience one’s
journey throughout the country. Along with
displaying historical attractions, it also shows the
many beaches and theme parks that can be
  visited throughout the country.
Internet Podcast
• Segovia and Toledo Podcast
• This podcast is an interview with Ralph
Valesco by the host of Amateur Traveler
  podcast. It discusses different attractions
of two of the major cities in central
Spain, which are Segovia and Toledo. In
the podcast, they discuss touring these
two cities and include what there is to
see in these two cities, where to eat, and
many other topics. As a teacher, I would
focus on the sites there are to see in
these two major cities of Spain. The
students will be able to listen to his
  experience and brief descriptions of
  these attractions .
Youtube Content
• Top 10 Attrations in Madrid
• This video shows ten of the major attractions
that can be seen in the city of Madrid, Spain’s
capital. It also gives a brief description of each
  of the major attractions.
Internet Resources
• https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-
  world-factbook/geos/sp.html
• This resource is from the Central Intelligence
Agency website. It allows students to learn
about the geography, people, and government
of Spain. The students can also view pictures
  from throughout the country.
Internet Resources
• http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/c
  ountries/spain-guide/
• This link directs users to the National
Geographic website and is a guide of Spain. It
can be used for cultural information of specific
cities, to display photos to students, and to
learn facts about the county. It also shows
attractions in some of the major cities of
  Spain.
Internet Resources
• http://www.spain.info/en_US/ven/
• This site takes students through different cities
in Spain. It discusses the history, traditions,
and culture of each city. It also discusses the
enjoyment of the country, including the
  sports, nightlife, and shopping.
Inspiration

         • This graphic organizer
           was created using
           Inspiration. It is an
           effective way for
           students to choose
           different cities in
           Spain and record
           major attractions in
           these specific cities.
Teaching Materials
       • This worksheet can be used as an
         introduction to the lesson on
Spain. Students can use this KWL
         chart to describe what they
         already know about the country
and what they want to know
         about the country. Once the
         lesson has been taught students
can go back and fill in what they
         have learned about Spain.
       • This worksheet was found at
         http://www.studenthandouts.co
         m/Assortment-01/Graphic-
         Organizers/KWL-Chart-Know-
         Want-to-Know-Learned-
         Instructions.html
Teaching Materials
         • This worksheet was found
           at:
           http://www.armoredpengui
           n.com/crossword/Data/best
           /geography/spain.01.pdf
         • Students can use this
           crossword puzzle to fill in
           the information they know
           about the county and to
           research information they
do not know on the culture,
           history, and geography of
           Spain.
Teaching Materials
        • This word search was
          created using
          www.worksheetworks.com
        • It can be found at
          http://www.worksheetwork
          s.com/pdf/ec3/9db98d5fca
          9f4/WorksheetWorks_Spain
          _Word_Search_2.pdf
        • This worksheet is useful for
          students to learn about the
          geography of Spain.
Teaching Materials
         • This worksheet was
           found at
           http://homeschoolcreat
           ions.com/files/Labeling
           _Spain.pdf
         • This is a good activity
for the students to do in
           order to learn about the
           geography of Spain.
Teaching Materials
• This worksheet was found
  at
  http://homeschoolcreatio
  ns.com/files/Flag_of_Spai
  n.pdf
• This is a good activity for
  students to learn about
  the flag of
  Spain, especially since it is
  related to the geography
  of the country.
Is there an app for that?
             • Click the App picture to
               be directed to the Spain
               Travel Guide by Triposo
               (FREE) application
             • This application offers up
to date city guides for the
               major cities of Spain and
               many others. It offers
               major attractions for each
city, a map of each city,
               and even useful Spanish
               sayings.
Subject-Specific Resource
• http://www.spanish-town-guides.com/
• This site is a good resource for studying the
country of Spain. It gives general information
and tourist information for many different
cities in the country, including Madrid,
  Malaga, Granada, Salamanca, and Barcelona.
Uses of the Internet
• http://encyclopedia.com
  – This online reference can be used to find basic
information on any subject. It can be used to
study the geography of Spain, the culture of the
country, and specific cities in Spain.
  – This is a translator and can be extremely useful for
students studying Spanish. It can be used for
students to translate common phrases in Spanish
    to English and vice versa.
Web 2.0
• Edmodo-This site is similar to Facebook and a
teacher can create a group with each student
from the class. It is extremely useful for
  communication and collaboration. Students
can each pick a major city in the country of
Spain and post their assignment to the
website. The teacher and other students can
all comment on the information and add to it
  as well.
