2. VISIT TO THE NEWSSTAND
The publication that caught my eye the most was the magazine I
selected, Original Xbox Magazine, because of its bright green color all
over its cover.
The magazine with the best photography was an issue of Conde Nast
Traveler, with a beautiful shot of tropical beaches. This is unsurprising
since an important factor of traveling is the aesthetic of the location you
are in.
Time’s cover design is hard to beat when it comes down to appeal
and simplicity. It might be because of its brand name, but it is a
certainly well designed cover.
Wired does a fantastic of grabbing your attention with well-
designed coverlines. They were the most appealing.
Original Xbox Magazine has a very appealing ToC, with sections
categorizing the different articles and images showing the games
described on different pages.
I found Wired to have very interesting articles, as I am interested in
the tech field.
3. REFLECTION ON NEWSSTAND
What caught my attention best was Wired’s
fantastic use of graphic design on their
coverlines. Their center images aren’t usually
that stunning or complicated, but their covers
pop because of the great use of graphics.
After visiting the newsstand, I had a lot of
elements to weigh that I noticed from my
browsing. As a video-game magazine, I think it
would be advantageous to aim for a modern
design that appeals to a younger
demographic.
4. INSPIRATIONAL MAGAZINE
This magazine is
inspirational to me
because of its
impressive use of
graphic design and
its identical genre
with the magazine I
will be designing.

17. REFLECTION ON MAGAZINE
My inspirational magazine, Official Xbox
Magazine, features articles about video
games, the game industry, and other topics
related to video games.
The target audience of the magazine seems to
be mostly males aged 13-24.
OXM features articles categorized into
Dashboard (news and interviews), Features
(unique game articles), and Reviews (game
reviews).
18. REFLECTION ON MAGAZINE PT. 2
Generally, the central cover image is a
character from the featured video game, with
them in a pose of some sort usually showing
most of their body. Usually there is only one
character but sometimes there are multiple.
The images have no setting where they are
taken, as they are rendered in a video game.
The masthead is always white or green, the
layout is usually the same, and there is always a
puff in the upper left or right. In addition, the
coverlines are always on the left.
