Egypt Revival Alliance - AYADI ICYEN
“Egypt Revival Alliance - Ayadi” is an NGO that is aimed at enriching and enhancing
the role of the Civic Society as a major component of the desired comprehensive
revival model of Egypt, one that we hope will be as an inspiring example to the
world as “Tharir” was during the Revolution.
Ayadi will enable and empower individuals, who constitute the raw material for the
success of the organizations. It also acts as a “Missile Launch” Platform for selected
Projects that contribute to the strategic revival objectives of Egypt. As such, it offers
“structural” support; i.e. funding, partnership and formation, as well as
“operational” guidance once a project is launched; i.e. consulting, collaboration,
logistical assistance and –as the case may require- even physical incubation.
The model is designed on a “hub” format, where the beneficiary member
organizations and individuals “plug in” to receive the proper sponsorship,
mentoring, resourcing and support through the array of donors, partners and
volunteer participants of Ayadi. Once ready with the proper standards, they can
proceed to deliver their target contribution to the overall revival vision, with follow-
up, supervision and best practice sharing of our organization as appropriate.

REGIONAL VIEW ICYEN
Egypt:
Background:
Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) account for over 90% of active enterprises in Egypt
and contribute to over 80% of GDP and 75% of total employment. Yet, they remain at a clear
disadvantage vis-à-vis larger businesses. According to a survey conducted by NILEX (the Egyptian stock
exchange for growing medium and small companies), SMEs account for only 10% of total capital
accumulation in Egypt and, while 75% of SMEs apply for banking loans, 92% of application are rejected.
Egypt has a vibrant entrepreneurial population with strong potential for growth. Of the Egyptian adult
population 13.1% were either actively trying to start business in 2008, or already owned and managed
one that was less than three years old.
Current Effort in Egypt:
•On the official (government is partner) level: ITIDA ; their business incubation program TIEC Technology
Innovation and Entrepreneurial Center.
•Non-governmental level: Nahdet El-mahrousa; provides support to university graduates with their
graduation projects. (basically scientific schools)

REGIONAL VIEW
Example from the MENA: Entrepreneurship in Tunisia
Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and Local Development
- The OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and Local Development acts as a
catalyst, increasing synergies between different areas of expertise, and raising the
profile of OECD work on entrepreneurship. It is charged with disseminating best
practices on the design, implementation and evaluation of initiatives to promote
entrepreneurship, SME growth and local economic and employment development
- What Do Entrepreneurs in Tunisia Need Most?
Legal Reform
Essentially we cannot promote entrepreneurs without tackling the legal framework
that gives an entrepreneur the rights to their land, house and capital. ,
“Without paper you’re dead… capitalism works on paper. It’s the second level of
reality.” This reality is the context that entrepreneurs operate in, and without the
proper legal titles entrepreneurship will never translate into job creation.
