So how are people leveraging the cloud today to achieve such features? A number of people have found a public cloud like Amazon to be a good way to implement those features. One of the main characteristics of a public cloud is multi-tenancy, there are multiple people using the public cloud, they don’t know each other, but they all share the infrastructure together. On the other hand, there are other people who prefer to run on the cloud exclusively, or with someone they know. They don’t like the idea of sharing infrastructure components like Network and bandwidth with strangers, so they setup a cloud environment that is isolated and leverage it for their use. For that reason that type of cloud is named a Private cloud. Setting up a private cloud in some cases can be as simple as a software upgrade in the infrastructure, leveraging what the organization already has in hardware and staff while enabling them to be more efficient. The difference between the public and private cloud can be emphasized further through features like security and control. With Private clouds users get to meet more stringent security requirements, and they’re also able to get control over every thing running in their cloud environment. We are seeing interest form various users who want to run ArcGIS on their own private cloud.
