E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience English Training Abroad (ETA) teachers have specialised skills in language and literacy and bring with them many years of professional experience as teachers and academics. ETA partners and staff undertake continual professional development and ongoing teaching practice to ensure high levels of academic and practical applications for their learners. Our staff members have strong international profiles as researchers and are currently engaged in important projects related to their respective areas of specialisation. ETA partners have presented at a range of international conference on 4 of the 5 continents of the world. They are involved in national research and projects. In addition, they manage and deliver national professional development focussing on language, literacy, technology and lifelong learning.
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience Accolades from the 2007 TESOL Teacher Program (Incheon) Whilst ETA is a new educational partnership, all ETA partners have worked on the 2007 AA KOREA (Incheon Teachers) Program. Here are some of past students’ accolades for ETA professionalism and program delivery: “ I am so glad that I can’t hide my delights. Most of all, I’m please to have many helpful resources and a fantastic teacher I have been looking for. You have a lot of knowledge about education and TESOL. I want to become a teacher like yo. You are a really good teacher who has the real powers to move our Korean teachers this time.” “ First of all, the useful strategies which I can apply to my school atmosphere are wonderful and what is better is all of them are based on appropriate TESOL theories. This is the first experience that gives me useful lessons that I can get the realist and academic theories from a TESOL program.”
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience Accolades from the 2007 TESOL Teacher Program (Incheon) First of all I’d like to appreciate you for your kind guidance of our adventure into the world of TESOL. You gave me a precious chance of creative experience. You taught us to make our syllabus fun. It was really nice. I can think about one topic and know I can use it in many ways. I was very impressed with your lessons, I like everything you are teaching. You are very professional and skilful. Whenever you explained something, I understood you very well, so I memorised clearly. For example, you explain something and you showed many suitable examples. So, when I come back to Korea I will apply to my class what I learned from you. I think teaching is the most important job of all. Because it is not possible if we don’t have the love of knowledge, human beings and the teaching itself. In this view, you are a born teacher. Thanks to you, we can be motivated a lot about teaching our students.
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience The ETA TESOL Professional Development Program mounts a comprehensive program built upon the principles and practice of education, allied with a thorough grounding in knowledge about language. ETA’s Program aims to develop, enhance and research leading-edge understanding of how students best learn English as a second language and the pedagogic practice that optimally supports their learning. This program supports the principles of excellence in teaching pedagogy by its practical and innovative teaching methodologies used to deliver its training programs .
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience TESOL Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Professional Development Program ETA and AA Korea are working together to deliver a professional development training program for teachers in Incheon, Republic of Korea
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience TESOL is an acronym for “Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages”.   It encompasses both ESL -  teaching English in countries like Australia, where people from immigrant, refugee or indigenous backgrounds learn English as a second language, and EFL – where students in countries where English is not the dominant language learn English as a foreign language. The TESOL area of study offers students a wide range of subjects in which they will be able to develop their expertise in primary, secondary and/or adult ESL or EFL teaching contexts.

E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages There are some courses available which enable you to learn the principles of teaching and learning second languages from both a theoretical and a practical perspective, without requiring specialisation in a particular language or a choice between TESOL or LOTE as a teaching area. Such courses often serve as bridging courses for graduates whose current skills (including English language skills) do not properly equip them to enter straight into TESOL or LOTE at a post-graduate level. They provide a professional in-service program to practicing teachers. This TESOL Professional Development program serves this purpose – to provide prerequisite training in an introduction to TESOL research and theory as well as improving the English language skill proficiency of its participating teachers.

E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience TESOL Professional Development Program This program is specifically designed for teachers wanting to undertake initial professional learning in TESOL and for those who are contemplating further post-graduate study or research to enhance their knowledge of the area and/or want to improve their English language skills in preparation for university study in Australia. Within ETA’s professional development programs, a wide range of subjects are available, covering an introduction to aspects of TESOL educational practice in Australia. Programs can be adapted and modified to meet the needs of the participant and its governing bodies.
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience ETA’s TESOL Professional Development Program The TESOL professional development program is comprehensive and practical. It is tailored to cater to the needs of participants who, as yet, have not reached the appropriate English Language Entry requirements for post-graduate studies at Australian universities. This program provides extensive support in developing personal English language skills whilst preparing for post-graduate study in Australia.

E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience ETA’s TESOL Professional Development Program This TESOL professional development program provides initial preparation and continuing professional development for Republic of Korea elementary, middle, high school and other teachers who are considering entering an accredited post-graduate university qualification in Australia and overseas. This program aims to advance understanding of the theory and practice of teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Teachers will have opportunity to achieve an increased level of competence in their own personal English language levels.
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience ETA’s TESOL Professional Development Program While the main focus of study is the language teaching methods and the practicality of classroom teaching, the program also offers subjects introducing other areas paramount to contemporary language teachers. The subjects include language testing, computer-assisted language learning, second language acquisition, basic grammar and syllabus design. Also, the program raises some important issues relevant to a modern language teacher such as culture awareness and learner sensitivities. The aim of these subjects is to give practical introduction to the above mentioned areas as well as to raise awareness of and the need for further professional development. Modification to the timetable may occur to accommodate student needs.
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience All subjects deal with issues in English language, language learning and other contemporary issues associated with teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. As the course evolves, the content focus shifts between theoretical basis to practical classroom applications of TESOL. The theoretical part of the course provides the basis for the practical application and presentation of classroom lessons and activities.

E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience Incheon Component – Intensive English Program Developing Greater English Language Competence in Reading The written word surrounds us daily. We are members of a literate society. For ESL learners, there is a need to continually expand and extend their capabilities to increase communicative competence. In this subject, participants will look at the schema of reading, the types of reading that they undertake and the role of comprehension in supporting effective communicative competence. Developing English Language Lessons in Reading This subject will help participants to develop skills in teaching reading comprehension, providing reading schemas, understanding the role of vocabulary in developing interactive reading techniques for effective reading lessons and activities. Developing Greater English Language Competence in Writing Writing includes the production of a piece of writing and is often the last macro skill to develop in second language learners. This subject will provide participants with the opportunity to enhance their writing skills and to develop more confidence in the production of written pieces in English. Developing English Language Lessons in Writing This subject will look at the microskills of writing and provide participants with extensive activities and practice in developing interactive and effective writing lessons for their English classrooms.
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience Incheon Component – Intensive English Program Developing Greater English Language Competence in Speaking From a communicative view of the language classroom, listening and speaking skills are closely related. The interaction between these two modes of performance applies especially to the conversation. Participants will be given extensive opportunity to apply and practice English speaking skills during this subject. Developing English Language Lessons in Speaking This subject will consider the role of transactional dialogues, conversations and the role of pronunciation on the English language learning classroom. Participants will apply the theory of speaking with the design of practical communicatively engaging speaking activities. Developing Greater English Language Competence in Listening The importance of listening in language learning can hardly be overestimated. Through reception, we internalise linguistic information without which we could not produce language. In classrooms, students always do more listening than speaking. Listening is a major component in language learning and in this subject participants will develop understanding of interactive listening comprehension. Developing English Language Lessons in Listening The microskills of listening will be developed. Extensive practical activities will support the principles of teaching listening in the English language learning classroom.
E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience Incheon Component – Intensive English Program Curriculum and Syllabus Design This subject will introduce participants to a range of modern syllabus design techniques and models. Participants will be engaged in the development of language lessons using a range of syllabi. Introduction to Modern Language Teaching Methods This subject will begin whilst the participants are in South Korea via online learning. When arriving in Australia participants will continue to look at the range of modern communicative language teaching methods. Assessing English Language Skills This subject will focus on different types of assessment in a language classroom. Included in this will include the understanding of formative, summative, norm-based, criterion-based and competency based assessments. Professional Practice – Preparing a Professional Presentation As preparation for further accredited training in Australian post-graduate courses, this subject provides participants with the opportunity to plan and prepare a professional presentation focusing on an aspect of Korean or Australian educational theory, practice or research. This presentation will be delivered in English during the final week of their studies. Preparing for the Australian Cultural Studies Experience Participants will be coming to Australia for one month. Based on feedback from the 2007 Incheon Teacher’s Professional Development Program, this subject has been included to provide participants with practical, meaningful and potentially relevant information for a better English Language Immersion experience. This subject will include study of Australian culture, everyday language, geography, history, art and music.

  • 10. E nglish T raining A broad The Australasian Education Experience TESOL Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Professional Development Program ETA and AA Korea are working together to deliver a professional development training program for teachers in Incheon, Republic of Korea

Both Masters programs can be undertaken as either a coursework or research-classified degree, depending on whether a student wishes to undertake a research thesis or not. Doctoral Degrees Doctor of Education (D.Ed) The TESOL specialisation in the Doctor of Education can be taken as either a research-classified degree (with 55,000 word thesis), or as a coursework-classified degree (with Professional Project and 30,000 word thesis). Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) This is a University-wide degree, usually administered by the School of Graduate Studies. Supervision is available in a broad range of TESOL areas.
