                             Lesser Prairie Chicken Executive Summary

In the beginning I had a very difficult time trying to get a Great Plains Bird Project

started. I spent several weeks calling and emailing several different Audubon Chapters and other

bird sanctuary’s located in the Great Plains. I was originally trying to find an ongoing project

that I could help work on, but no one contacted me back, except to say to contact my local

Audubon Chapter.

For my final project, I made a Facebook page to help bring awareness to the Lesser

Prairie Chicken’s habitat.

 The Lesser Prairie Chicken is a brown, ground nesting bird, only weighing 1 to 2

                 pounds.

 Lesser Prairie Chickens have a distinguished look between females and males.

The males have a black tuft of feathers, a yellow comb above the eyes and

red air sacs on the neck that are very prominent during the breeding season.

 They eat insects, seeds, leaves, buds, and sometimes cultivated crops.

 They currently only reside in 5 of the 12 states of The Great Plains.
The Lesser Prairie Chicken Facebook Page,

 Currently has 56 likes, but is increasing daily.

 Has 5 posts, including videos and pictures.

 The Facebook Page has a summary that includes habitat information, and potential

         effects on the environment.

 There are also links, to other informative sites about the Lesser Prairie Chicken.
