Core! (Guardians of Childhood Chapter Books) Big SALE
Don’t miss The Rise of the Guardians, soon to be a major motion picture in theaters
November 2012.
Forget the bunny trail. E. Aster Bunnymund is on a warpath. In this second chapter book
in William Joyce’s The Guardians series, sometimes you have to crack a few eggs.
Pitch, the Nightmare King, and his Fearlings had been soundly driven back by Nicholas St.
North and company in the first Guardians’ adventure. But now Pitch has disappeared
completely—and out of sight does NOT make for out of mind. It seems certain that he’s plotting
a particularly nefarious revenge, and the Guardians suspect he might have gone underground.
But how can they find him there?
Enter E. Aster Bunnymund, the only emissary of the fabled brotherhood of the Pookas—the

(many of which he invented himself), Bunnymund is brilliant, logical, and a tunnel-digger
extraordinaire. If the Guardians need paths near the Earth’s core, he’s their Pooka. He’s also
armed with magnificent weapons of an oval-sort, and might just be able to help in the quest for
the second piece of the Moonclipper.
This second book in The Guardians series is about much more than fixing a few rotten eggs—it
brings the Guardians one step closer to defeating Pitch!
Strange story, good for kids to learn new words though.
I bought this book for my 7 year old daughter (2nd grade). She reads on a 5th grade level and
we thought this book would be a fun and challenging book for her. Well, boy were we right! The
book reads like an adult novel most of the time and was even a bit challenging for us during
some parts. Our daughter liked the story but struggled to understand many words and story
lines thoughout. So, on hand, it was great for her to be exposed to so many new words and
scenarios. On the other, she would get frustrated quite a bit with not knowing so many new
words or understanding the plot. So, I would recommend this book if you have the time to read
with your child and help them through it. Our daughter has learned a lot of new words and, now
finished with the book, we appreciate that. I would recommend the book for 5th grade level and
up. It’s fantasy and sci-fi at times, so make sure both the kids and adults like that genre.

Kung Fu Bunny
The Easter Bunny has pretty much been an important icon during the Easter. He’s an adorable
tall bunny who wears a tie and leaves Easter eggs in places where children can hunt for them.
But in Book 2 of “Guardians”, William Joyce shows us a whole different Easter Bunny who has
a surprising talent: martial arts.
The story picks up from the first book, after the battle between Pitch, the Nightmare King. Since
then, the village of Santoff Claussen has had no danger, but the Guardians are sure that Pitch
will return with a more darker plot. Later, Katherine and Nicholas St. North travel to meet a
guardian in a robe named E. Aster Bunnymund who is a leader of warrior rabbits and a master
of kung fu. Soon, things go fatal when Pitch puts a spell on the village and preparing his plans
for revenge.
This was a very fun-filled volume with a lot of excitement and surprise. But it didn’t really grab
me like books one and three did. Kids will love the book for sure when they…

3. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Nicholas St. North and the Nightmare King. I love the
authors tongue-in-cheek references to lots of classic stories.[/has_review]
