What is a PM certification?
• A confirmation that a person has passed a test (assessment) to
  prove competence

• Awarded to a person, not to an organization

• Three general types:              • Three different categories:

   • Corporate (internal)            • Competence based

Global certification bodies
• PMI (Project Management Institute) is an organization with more than 500 000
  certified from over 180 countries, with headquarters in the US. The theoretical
  foundation is documented in PMBOK® Guide – A Guide to the Project Management
  Body of Knowledge. Certifications include PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP.

• IPMA (International Project Management Association) is a Switzerland based
  organization with about 130 000 individuals from just over 40 countries certified.
  ICB®, IMPA Competence Baseline, is used as frame of reference for their
  certifications (IPMA Level D-A).

• APMG (The APM Group Ltd) is a UK based global accreditation body which develops
  and delivers qualification schemes for knowledge-based workers. The company is
  the official accreditor of the UK Government's Cabinet Office for qualifications
  based on their Best Practice guidance portfolio (ITIL, PRINCE2, etc.).

Which one is right for your organization?
• Both IPMA and PMI provide well defined career paths
• PMI certifications are usually cheaper and quicker to get
• IPMA certifications usually provide more of a learning
  experience
• PMI-ACP is a good general certification for agile
• PRINCE2 is a good methodology (go for Practitioner)
• Choose agile certifications based on preferences, e.g:
   • DSDM for PRINCE2, Scrum for XLPM/PROPS

The theoretical foundation is documented in PMBOK® Guide – A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge. Certifications include PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP. • IPMA (International Project Management Association) is a Switzerland based organization with about 130 000 individuals from just over 40 countries certified. ICB®, IMPA Competence Baseline, is used as frame of reference for their certifications (IPMA Level D-A). • APMG (The APM Group Ltd) is a UK based global accreditation body which develops and delivers qualification schemes for knowledge-based workers.
