Objective:
Operate as the Official Veterinarian in different plant and providing technical advice to the plant
inspection team to ensure the efficient and consistent delivery of Official Controls. Build and
manage effective relationships with the Food Business Operator and other stakeholders and is
responsible for health & safety management at plant level.

Main duties and responsibilities:
Ante Mortem Inspection, Animal Welfare & Animal Identification:
Detection of diseases or conditions that may affect human health
or animal health
Monitor the welfare status and conduct clinical examination of
suspect animals where appropriate
Assess the suitability and competence of persons applying for a
slaughter’s licence and contribuite to the training of such
individuals
Verify Food Business Operator checks of eligibility to ensure
that ineligible animals do not enter the human food chain.
Post Mortem Inspection,Specified Risk Material & Animal by Products:
Ensure that Post Mortem Inspection in carried out in accordance
with the Regulations, and diagnose by additional examination
where necessary
Agree the Food Business Operators RMOP for BSE testing
regime and its verification
Verify Food business Operators controls of animal by-product.
Health and Identification Marking:
Apply or oversee application of health marking in accordance
with the legislation
Verify the Food business Operators application of the
identification mark
2. Ensure the security of the health marking equipment
Food Chain Information & Collection and Communication ofInspection Results:
Analyse food chain information and take action as appropriate
Record and evaluate inspection results, and communicate
inspection findings as appropriate
Processed Meat:
Ensure that all meat processing activities are correctly identified
Analyse the additional risk involved in the production and
handling of processed meats,especially those ready to eat and
audit the application of appropriate food safety management
systems
Apply the additional controls necessary in the premises handling
Ready to Eat products
Auditing & Enforcement:
Verify that the Food Business Operator complies with the
legislation through the FBOs own food safety management
procedures and target inspection and enforcement tasks
accordingly
Follow risk based procedures to take fair and appropriate and
proportionate enforcement actions and liase with other
enforcement bodies as required
Act as an expert witness in legal cases as required
Stakeholder Management:
Establish and maintain productive working relationships with the
plant FBOs and other stakelholders (Other Government
Departments,Local Authorities, etc)
Discuss any potential impact
General:
Identify personal training needs to undertake continuing
educational activities including appropriate uptake of FSA
training and CPD
Certificate of export of products to other countries.
