Operation Purple Camps.

Operation Purple Camp applications are being accepted now. These
are free summer camps for qualifying military dependents. There are 2
camps available in NY State, Camp Wabasso locally from July 29,
2012 - August 3, 2012 and Pioneer Camp from July 8, 2012 - July 13,
2012 in Western NY. There are also camps available in other areas of
the country as well. To find out more about the camps, the

First Annual Autism Awareness Day Celebration from 11AM to 2PM
Disabled Persons Action Organization (DPAO) in collaboration with Northern Regional Center for Independent
Living (NRCIL) and the Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country invite the community to attend an Autism
Awareness Celebration. The Celebration will kick off with a balloon release and awareness walk at Thompson Park
in Watertown at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the walk, the community is invited to attend a picnic lunch at
DPAO, 633 Davidson Street, Watertown, New York. The picnic lunch will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. During the
picnic, a movie will be shown and a DJ will be on hand to provide music. RSVP’s are appreciated. Please call Terri

21st Annual Pasta for CASA Dinner and Silent Auction

Event Description The proceeds of this annual event helps to fund training and support for CASA volunteers, so
that we may continue serving abused and neglected children in our community and helping them to establish safe,
permanent homes as quickly as is legally possible. The more volunteers we have, the more children and families we
are able to help.

Community Health Seminars
Transitional Living Services will be hosting free public seminars, no RSVP is required. All seminars will take
place in the Woodruff Conference Center, located at 482 Black River Parkway Watertown, from 6-8pm. Seating
limited to 70. Refreshments provided.
*April 18th"Suicide and Depression: The warning signs." Presented by a WHS counselor Craig Randall as well as
Andrea Peck from the Victim Assistance Center to discuss domestic violence, negative relationships, murder-suicide
cases, etc.
*April 25th "The endless battle to stay healthy" This panel discussion of medical experts, fitness experts from Page
Fitness, dieticians, and Jefferson County Public Health officials, along with Cindy Habeeb of TV 7 "For Your
Health" will discuss the on-going battle with staying healthy from obesity, exercise, nutrition, foods to avoid, the
health impacts of unhealthy eating, and what we all can do to improve our lives.
--These in-depth discussions are free to the public for all ages. Discussion will cover issues facing teens today such
as bullying, sexting, social media, availability of drugs, etc. In addition, discussion will be how behaviors as teens,
especially social media, can impact employment several years down the road.

Dulles State Office Building, Taste of the Town is a fundraiser for Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County
with all proceeds to benefit services to victims of violence and crime in Jefferson County.

Symphony Syracuse will present an all-Mozart concert at 8 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 227 Sherman St.
The concert will open with Mozart's popular “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (A Little Night Music) and will conclude
with his Symphony No. 40. Daniel Hege will conduct. Tickets are $20 general admission, $17 for seniors and
military, and $10 for students. Tickets are available in advance of the concert at the Greater Watertown Chamber of
Commerce, 1241 Coffeen St., and at the door on the evening of the performance. The concert is sponsored by the
Northern New York Community Foundation.

Men,” a classic tale by Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck. This tragic and endearing story follows the
mismatched friendship of two displaced migrant ranch workers, George Milton and Lennie Small, in California
during the Great Depression.

The 51st Rushton Memorial Canoe Race is set for Friday May 4 to Sunday May 6. The weekend, hosted by St.
Lawrence Valley Paddlers, will include competitive and recreational canoe races on the Grasse River. Festivities
will be going on throughout the Village, with restaurant specials, music and exhibits. Event coordinator Chuck
Bolesh notes that the traditional race from Pyrites to Canton Island Park was so successful when it was reinstituted
