CASE STUDY 1 – “Fashion Wear”
Data Warehouse Management with SAP BW for “Fashion Wear”:
Introduction: Our company produces Fashion wear and maintains a world-wide distribution of its products.
Three product groups are offered – Jeans, Boots, and Bags. Each product group comprises of a number of
products. Company’s organization is divided into one production plant and four areas of distribution.
Each area consists of two or more regions, which again has their own distribution centers.
C .
L
The company’s customers are resellers who are grouped into following customer types: web shop, specialized
store, retail store, shopping clubs.
Customers are attributed to at least one distribution centre.
L
Company’s cost controlling differentiates three cost groups - variable costs, partly fixed costs, and fixed costs.
Responsibility: You are employed as a consultant to design and implement a data warehouse for our company
according to the information given Star Schema.
c h
Tasks: You should create a Info Cube FW00_SA in the following info area where “00” stands for the user
number: Info Area – FASHION_WEAR_00.
The cube has five dimensions with three navigation attributes, which can be seen from star schema. Additional
it should have key figures according to data file. The dimension organization has a hierarchy, which will be
e
retrieved from the master data. It is not time-dependent. The dimension time should have following
characteristics. Any further required information can be extracted from data file structure. The source system
and application component should be named as follows. The data will be manually imported from a flat file
T
system. The info sources shall have the same notation as the info objects. The transfer data shall be directly
imported into the data warehouse. The sequence of transfer data can be reviewed in flat file. Data flow can be
seen in figure below: Source system: FW00_SOSY, Application component: FW00_APPCOMP

CASE STUDY 2 – “Inventory Disposal Planning System”
Develop an “Inventory Disposal Planning System” for a global:
C .
The Client: A large consumer products company with major manufacturing facilities in the US and Europe, and
operating in 200 countries.
L
The Challenge: The client wanted to improve upon its SKU Management process for the disposal of inventory,
to be able to identify its slow-moving products and make timely decisions as to when an item must be taken off
the shelf and disposed off.
L
The Solution: Company partnered with the client to carry out end-to-end development of a monitoring tool
with pre-defined reports needed to support the process of tracking and execute the process of disposal of
rationalized SKUs. The SKU management process utilizes a simplified market level profit valuation of the
h
demand plan of the individual SKU. This profitability is aggregated across all markets within a region to
determine the regional profitability of the SKU. If the regional profitability of the SKU overtime does not meet
c
the defined hurdle rate, then the SKU must be identified for elimination. Company’s solution involved
generating reports and trigger processes that would help make critical decisions and take action at the
e
appropriate time to reduce or manage the inventory of SKUs. The reports are as follows:
Action Report: It lists all rationalized SKUs that require the set up of a disposal plan. Disposal plans include
sell off, break down, disposal, charity, transfer, etc. They have a clearly defined execution period by which all
remaining inventory should be disposed off.
progress against each planned disposal.
n T
Monitor Report: This ensures the follow-through and completion of the disposal process. It indicates the
Escalations Enabled Report: Failures to adhere to the applied disposal plan or to meet the deadline are
identified from the Monitor Report and escalations enabled using this report.
a
Slow-moving Report: This report identifies the slow-moving SKUs and lists demand, inventory and months of
forward coverage.
r
Non-working Inventory Summary Report: This report is used by Management at the regional and higher
levels within the global value chain organization, to understand the exposure the company has in the form of
inactive and potentially inactive inventory. The report is also used by financial organizations in preparing and

tracking inventory reserves.
1. Quick ramp-up to meet various technology skill requirements, at relatively lower costs
Significant reduction in IT spending by having key resources onsite and coordinating with the offshore
team through the offshore model
End-to-end project responsibility resulting in a single vendor contact.
2. Rationalization to provide USD 3m in annualized carrying cost-savings
3. Process will enforce disposal of promotional goods within one quarter of completion of the promotion. This is
much faster than the current practice and will result in an additional USD 1.3m generated from reduced
carrying costs.
The Technology: SAP BW, Front End - BeX, Database- Oracle 8.1, Autosys.
