The definition of
Human Rights:
 The basic rights and freedoms to
which all humans are
entitled, often held to include
the right to life and
liberty, freedom of thought and
expression, and equality before
the law.
 Equality -Everyone is equal before
the law and has the right to equal
protection and benefit of the law.

Bill of Rights:

 Human dignity


Everyone has inherent dignity
and the right to have their dignity
respected and protected.

 Life
Everyone has the right to life.
 Freedom and security of the
person. Everyone has the right to
freedom and security.
Continuation of the Bill of Rights:
 Privacy

 Everyone has the right to privacy in their
homes, workplace etc
 Everyone has the right to education
 Food
 Clothing
 Shelter
 Sanitation
 Medical services

Responsibilities
of Citizens/
Learners:

 treat every person equally and
fairly, and

 not discriminate unfairly against
anyone on the basis of race, gender,
religion, national, ethnic or social
origin, disability, culture, language,
status or appearance.
 honour and respect my parents, and
to help them,
 attend school regularly, to learn,
and to work hard,

 cooperate respectfully with teachers
and fellow learners and
 adhere to the rules and the Code of
Conduct of the school.
Peer Activity:

Instructions: In groups of two you and your partner are
required to plan and design a
T-Shirt which portrays a particular right and combine this with
a responsibility which you as peers feel is most important to
the right.
Consider the following:

 Design your T-shirt on an A3 paper

 Include pictures and words which will support
the right and responsibility
 Your T-shirt should be creative, colouful, neat,
well- organized and informative

 Uses a variety of resources such as books,
newspapers, magazines, internet etc
