 Use Photoshop to add, modify, or delete
individual pixels or groups of pixels
 Image Resolution
 Spacing of pixels in an image, measured in ppi
(pixels per inch) or dpi (dots per inch)
 Image Size
 Physical dimensions of an image, measured in
pixels (width x height)

 Multiple images or visual elements from
different sources combined into one
 Images can be saved in various file formats
 Default file format is .psd
 Photoshop’s native raw format, similar to .tiff

 Polygonal lasso tool

 Selections can be made via colors instead of shapes
 Color Range command (Select Menu)
 Identify common colors to use for selection
 Exclude colors if necessary
 Magic Wand tool
 Tolerance: to specify whether similar pixels are included
 Anti-aliased checkbox: to soften appearance of
selection
 Contiguous checkbox: to select pixels that are next to
one another
 Sample All Layers checkbox: select pixels from all layers

 Vignette Effect: uses feathering to fade from a
marquee, blurring surrounding area
1. Create marquee (marquee or lasso tool)

 Burn: lightens selected area
 Doge: darkens selected area
 Eyedropper & Brush combo technique
 Eyedropper: changes Foreground color to selected spot
 Use shortcut keys: “I” and “B” to switch back/forth
