This document provides a summary of a client project brief for designing social media posters to promote a children's book. It includes mind maps and ideas for the posters, focusing on using bright colors and images from the book. Two initial poster concepts are described - one placing characters on a stage for Twitter, and one in a countryside setting with the book title central for Instagram. Research on competition, the target audience of parents, and exemplar designs is also summarized. The treatment describes how the final posters will attract attention with colorful, fun and simple designs showcasing the characters while keeping to brief requirements.
3. Mind Maps/BrainstormsColours I could include. I want to make my
design colorful as it is for a children's book and
you want to attract peoples attention on their
social media feed. I good way to do this is to
include brighter in your face designs and
colours.
Images Include images of the
characters the client has
provided. In Photoshop I could
crop the characters so I can
move them wherever I want
them to.
Include the book title on the
poster I am designing.
Add my own images this
could include images I have
made in Photoshop this
could be images of scenery,
objects the characters are
holding, objects around the
page etc.
Information on the poster
Could include some information
from past posters.
I could write my own text on the
posters this could say
‘meet Trev and the gang’ or ’ Try
out Triangular Trev’
4. Mind Maps/Brainstorms
I could include social media links on the poster. I could also include a link to the clients website.

6. Idea 1
My first Idea I am thinking of is placing all the characters on a stage with their instruments.
This advertisement will be in the correct size of 1200 X 600 pixels, this is just as the client
requested. The advert will be simple but it Will put the massage across about the book.
The advert will contain
• All the charicters out of the book
• The book title
• The advert willl be colourful to catch the viewers eyes as they a scrolling
Here’s a rough mock of the idea
7. Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
I like the fact that its colourful, bright and easy to understand. It gets the point across and there is no clicking to
enlarge. You can view the whole image straight away. It also includes links to the website
• Does it match what the client wants?
The client stated I could design whatever I thought look aesthetic and that I could use my own artist flare. I
think my design fits well with it being a good size for a promotional picture on twitter.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
I believe that I am capable. It requires some skill at Photoshop and I believe I know the skills to produce such a
product. The skills it requires is cropping, editing and inserting shapes, font selection and colour selection.
• Can you do this on time?
This project isn’t all that difficult it shouldn’t take me long at all.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
Yes, all I need for this project is Photoshop and I have access to photoshop.
8. Idea 2
My second idea would would be to make a larger poster preferably around 1080
pixels to 1080 pixels. This is because I am designing it for Instagram. In this design I
am going to place the characters on a field and ill have the book in the middle of the
page with the characters surrounding it. Ill be using lots of colour and the main focus
of this idea will be the book as I will be placing it in the center of the page. Will be
design the field out of the shapes in photo shop. I won’t be copy writing any images
as that could get me into trouble.

9. Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea? I like the fact that it is colourful and that you have
that main focus on the book. Also like the fact that I have included all the characters as
the viewer gets to learn about the characters. The characters themselves are very
interesting and they are different
• Does it match what the client wants? I think it does the client wanted me to have the
correct sizes for the different social media platforms. I chose the correct Instagram
dimensions. I think its colourful and it gets the point across. I will be also having it as a
PNG so the quality will be there.
• Are you capable of delivering this? I believe I am using the Photoshop skills I already
know.
• Can you do this on time? Yes it shouldn’t take much time in Photoshop.
• Do you have the resources available to do this? Yes all I will be using is Photoshop
10. Idea Evaluation
Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is
the right idea to take forward.
I would like to use both my ideas because I believe they both fit my clients brief and I
believe that I can produce a professional piece of work out of my ideas. I think that
both my idea’s are colourful, friendly and they should catch the eyes of the public
scrolling away on their phones.
12. Here is a mock up of my idea one. This design will be for twitter the size for this will be 1200 x
600. I will ensure that the poster is high quality and the correct size for twitter. The characters
will be placed up and down to stage to add more depth to the design. This will make the design
look more interesting and it adds that 3D effect when you add depth. I want my design to pop
out of the page when the audience is scrolling down their social media pages. I will cut out the
characters out of the images my client sent me. I will be getting rid of any background on them
so it looks as if they haven't been on any other design then my own. The design will include lots
of colour to fit in with how colourful the characters and lots of colour also makes your design
standout, especially on a bland white twitter page.
14. Developed Idea 2
Here is my mock up of my Instagram poster I am designing. Again I will be making sure it’s the
correct size and quality. I will be designing this poster 1080 pixels x 1080 pixels, this is the
correct square size of a standard Instagram post. For this design again I want it to look colourful
and I also want to add depth again. I will be doing this by bringing some characters forward and
some moved backward. This creates more of a 3D effect and makes the design standout. I am
aiming for my design to standout out as I want to attract viewers that are scrolling away on their
Instagram's.
15. Assessment of final ideas
Suitable for audience? I believe it is suitable for my audience as there is no explicit content. My ideas are
bright, colourful and child friendly. My audience will mainly be parents as they will be the ones seeing it
on social media. I think making it look children friendly Is still key as they will see that the book is suitable
for their child.
Suitability for client: I think my idea’s suit the client as she asked for my own artistic flare. I’ve shown this
but also I kept the theme of the book running throughout my design. For example on idea one I am
placing the characters on a stage. This suits the book as they are musical shapes.
Appeal of the work: I think it will look professional, bright, colourful, child friendly and it will suit my clients
wants.
Timescales for production: I am giving myself two weeks of production. This should be more then enough
time to complete two posters.
Costs: I have no cost as I am only sending my client my work through email. I don’t have to pint any of
my work. Also don t need to purchase any materials as its all on Photoshop.
Personnel: I will not be needing any staff.
16. Assessment of final ideas
Legal and ethical issues: There will not be any copyright issues as I have all of
that covered as It is for an author. I will also not be using any copyrighted images
when coming to designing as I don’t want my client to get sued. I will not be using
any offensive content that will offend anyone. It will be child friendly and I shall
receive no reports of complaints due to my audience being offended.
18. Competition/Market research:
Who is in competition with your client?
My client’s competition is other children's authors. This involves Julia Donaldson, David Walliams,
Jeff Kinney.
What is their design/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like?
Julia Donaldson is a good example because she uses social media platforms like my client does.
There is a twitter account that promotes her book ’The Gruffalo’ The twitter account contains
promotional posters for her book. As you can see the design is very simplistic but effective. The
book really stands out on that white background. Also its not just a white canvas, it has a butter fly
to keep things interesting. Another thing is you don’t have to click to enlarge you can already see
the full photo with out clicking on it. This saves time for the viewer and I think it wouldn't look at
professional if you had to click to view more as there isn't much to view.
What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in
the form of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share,
rules, regulations and codes of practice.
My client is part of the children's book market. The children's book market has always held its place
in the market for a long time. I searched children's books on amazon and it came up with
Over 200,000 children's books available. This shows that the market is huge and that it is still in
high demand. Also have a graph here showing the sells of books from 2009-2016 and the results are
promising for the children book market. The rules and regulation for children's
books is down to the author. There Is no agency that filters children's books,
parents will judge the book if it is suitable for their child.

19. Audience/Customer research:
Who is the audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have already told you. Perhaps you
should ask. You could also do further research in to the type of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to.
My target audience I will be targeting is parents on social media. I will be catching their eyes using
bright colours and family friendly content. I want parents to think the book is suitable for children
and that it’s a entertaining children's book. I believe the best way of doing this is making sure my
advertisements look professional, colourful and eye-catching. There is a lot going on, on a twitter or
Instagram feed and I want to make sure I am designing something to draw them in. The social status
of my book would be anyone as the book itself is cheap to buy. So I will be targeting a wider range
of social grades.
21. Here are some twitter uploads from authors
Rod Campbell
Jeff Kinney
This is one of Rod Campbell's twitter marketing
promotions. As you can see you don’t need to click
to enlarge. The image is perfectly fit to a square that
gives it that satisfying look. There is also lots of
bright colours use and I think it really stands out on
their social media page.
Here is another twitter marketing poster I have found by
Jeff Kinney. Again the designer has picked the correct image
size to make sure you aren’t clicking to enlarge. I think this
is important because it gets rid of the extra step of clicking
on the banner to view more. It saves people time and it
also makes sure the viewer sees all the information they
need before they have interacted with it. Over all this
design is again really colourful and bright. The yellow really
stands out and it is bound to catch peoples eyes when they
are scrolling away. The fonts used are laid back and wacky. I
think this is good because it looks more entertaining and it
relates to the book itself.
22. Authors Instagram marketing posters
Here is two Roald Dahl Instagram posts I have found. If you look at them both
you can see that they are both fit to the Instagram post size. This is important as
they don’t look out of shape and it looks professional.
If you look at the first one you can see that it is very bright and colorful. I think
this is really important as you want to catch the audiences eye. Another thing is
that the whole advertisement has kept the theme of the DVD running through
the design.
Looking at the second one you can see that again there is lots of bright colours. The
word ‘revolting’ looks very good with the theme as the designer has carefully
selected a font that goes with whole theme of the book. Also the green splatter in
the background looks like glop or as if someone has sneezed on the page. This
again fits will the whole theme of the book. There is a lot happening on this poster
but your eyes still get draw into the book as the designer has only used white,
green and few red texts. This makes the book standout on the poster as the book
has lots of colour to it.
All that content research has given me lots of inspiration and I will be making sure I
will be making my designs stand out as much as these posters do. I think colour is
key when designing posters like this because you want to make sure you are
catching the eyes of your audience as they are scrolling.
23. Treatment
Firstly my designs are made to capture the audience and they will do that successfully. This is because I have made sure
both my designs look bright, eye catching, fun, simple to understand and child friendly. I have used all the characters
from the book on both designs, this helps the viewer understand who’s in the book and what it’s all about. The
characters in this book are very interesting and I wanted to show that on the posters. I have set a bright and colourful
scene on of the posters. On the Instagram poster I have placed them in a very happy, green and sunny scene. The
characters will be all separated about on the country side hills looking happy with all their instruments. With them being
separated about you can add depth and I think this is important as it really makes the poster pop so much more. The
book will be in the centre as I want the book on this design to be the centre of attention. The book will be stood tall
amongst the hills and the characters around really making it standout.
On the twitter poster I have gathered Trev and his friends all on a big bright stage. This posters main aim is to show case
all the cool characters and their instruments. I have placed them on a stage because it fits in with the whole theme of
the book with them being a group of singing shapes. Again the characters will be scattered along the stage and there will
be lots of depth to make sure the poster is popping. The title of the book will be included above them as I want the
audience to know what this books called what what's it all about.
Overall I believe both designs will capture the attention of the scrolling parents and not only that It will make them want
to find out more. I have made sure they look as friendly as possible so parents can find a new book for their children to
enjoy. instagram
