AWSM in CS Applications
The University of Texas at Austin is excited to

Accelerating Women’s Success and Mastery in
Computer Science (AWSM in CS) project, a 3-year
initiative and research study.
AWSM in CS is designed to improve the
recruitment, retention and success of females in
high school computer science courses. As a
partner, you will network with other computer
science teachers and actively explore root causes
as well as test strategic solutions to this problem.

On November 14, 2018, the SBOE discussed the inclusion of several
new courses in a new Cybersecurity Pathway for Texas high schools.
3 existing CS courses from Tech Apps will receive weighted funding
equal to CTE as of the 2017-18 school year

Designed to support middle and high school teachers
before and during their first year teaching CS Discoveries or
CS Principles the Code.org Professional Learning Program
begins with a five-day, in-person summer workshop (Austin
and San Antonio dates - July 15-19, 2019) followed by four
additional sessions (TBA) throughout the year. Best of all?
No previous experience teaching computer science is
needed.
For Texas teachers, the cost of the Professional Learning Program
for CS Discoveries or CS Principles is $1,500 per teacher.
