Achieve A High Rank With
These High Ranking SEO Tips
Search engine optimization is a series of techniques that can be very powerful is
implemented properly and consistently. However, it is something that is relatively new and
daunting to many. The key is to gain an understanding of a few key concepts in order to
maximize the results of your efforts. The following article offers several tips which can help
you to do just that.
Join SEO Communities – Joining SEO communities is a great way to learn little insider
tricks of the trade. Say Google suddenly changes their policy and begins to treat HTML title
tags differently. You may not find out about this until your site falls in the rankings. But if
you’re signed up to receive newsletters and e-zines from the SEO community, you will
always be in the know.
Tag appropriately -. No one likes to type something in to google and get search results
that have nothing to do with what they are wanting or needing. Google keeps upgrading its
algorithms to improve its search results to serve up relevant content for its users. Seeing
results that have nothing to do with what they are searching for wastes your visitors time
and makes them frustrated and possibly angry. Make sure your site only pops up to people
who are looking for it by using appropriate tags that match your content, not tagging what
you think will get you higher in search results.
Good Content – Write good website content that human beings can understand and enjoy.
Keyword injected nonsense just isn’t going to work. Search engines are programmed to
differentiate between actual sentences and strings of words. They know a paragraph
shouldn’t have the same sentence repeated over and over. If you fill your site with valuable
content then the search engine results pages (SERPS) will reward you.
Include tags for your Images – If you plan on using search engine optimization to boost
your traffic, a great tip is to name the images on your site and use alt tags on your images.
Many site owners will upload some great looking pictures, but the search engines have no
idea what they are or what they look like. The reason you want great images is because
people will look at images more than read your words. The reason to tag your images
appropriately is so they can be read, found, and indexed by search engines.
Get Reviews – Writing and posting reviews for your product are a great way to increase
your traffic. By creating a review of the product, targeting the product keywords and
promoting the reviews via your social network, you can create a mind set for buying and
direct viewers appropriately.
Technical On-page SEO
For those of you who want some more meat on the bone, I’m including some more technical
information to chew on.
Code Ratio – For the highest search engine optimization, have a code ratio of less than
70%. What that means is that there is a high amount of content written on the page
compared to the amount of code that it is on the page to display that content. This is also
known as high signal-to-noise code or also as the high content-to code. This means that the
amount of source code is less than the amount of written text. In other words, article should
contain more text than HTML code.
SEO Friendly URLs – Make your website URL SEO-friendly. Incorporate some or all of
your keywords in your site address, like www.mysite.com/Delray-Beach-Cosmetic-Dentist”.
This will help search engines find your site. Also, use hyphens rather than underscores
because hyphens count as spaces but underscores do not. Here is the tricky part. Do it, but
don’t do it too much; having multiple dashes can make your link look like spam and people
might not click on them. Try to include your keyword phrase into the site URL. For
example, you may want to consider buying www.CosmeticDentistOfDelray.com if you are
able. The search engines read the domain within the URL and they place value on the
words found there. You want your keyword to be found as quickly as possible by the
engines to increase your rankings. If you were searching for a cosmetic dentist from Delray
Beach, the search engines would think CosmeticDentistOfDelray.com would be more
relevant than say, DrSmith.com. Remember, while we are always writing for our human
visitors, we need to ensure that our electronic visitors (search engine bots) can understand
your site, too.
Clear URL Structure – You should keep the URL structure of your site as clear as
possible. This will make your site easy to navigate. Having clear structure also helps the
site be indexed and can likely index for better ranking in search results. You can classify
your pages in different categories or by chronological order. Find what works best for the
type of website that you have and stick with the same logical structure throughout the site.
H tags – H tags were originally created for formatting purposes. H1 is the largest (usually
used for a title or headline), and others are used to break up different sections of the
content. Use the H2 and H3 tags sparingly as they can trick search engine spiders into
thinking your website is spam. The actual algorithms and mathematical equations used by
search engines to determine page rank aren’t entirely known, but many experts believe they
have at least a good idea. The space between header tags seems to be an indicator of a
spam site, so only using one H1 tag and using H2 and H3 tags sparingly can avoid that
problem. Besides, if you were to litter your page with H tags it would look like you are yelling
at your reader. J
Flash is dying a slow death – Flash navigation might be pretty, but a search engine spider
can’t even see it. If you insist on having your navigation, or entire website, built in Flash (I
do not), make sure you provide alternate HTML navigation somewhere on each page. Also,
have HTML pages available so that the search engine can index them and give you a
correct Page Rank. So basically if you want to have a Flash site, you should make and
maintain two versions. What a waste of time.
Backlinks – Backlinks may sound scary, but they are just links on other sites that point
back to yours. In SEO, the more backlinks that have been created, the better your chances
of being a popular website. This will mean that your site will appear favorably on search
engines. Search Engines like popular sites, because often popularity means credibility.
One good way to get backlinks is by creating awesome sharable content that solves a real
world problem, then creating awareness across the internet that the content exists. Many
times that means adding content in different article and bookmark directories. The problem
with backlinks is that that Google has said it wants organic backlinks, not paid. This is
because there are lots of companies that will generate tons of spam across the internet with
non-valuable links. They have been called Link Farms. It looks sketchy when you go from
0 to 150,000 backlinks in minutes. It’s better to go slower over time in an organic way
having other people and companies share your content because it is valuable.
Lastly, you’ll want to go back and optimize your site’s older content pages frequently. If your
older material does not appear in rankings like it should, you may need to analyze why that
is. Once you figure out why, you can tweak the page and content and resubmit the pages to
see it gets better search engine rankings.
In summary, when working on search engine optimization, you must:
 Create great content that is shareable
 Place appropriate keywords throughout every part of your site.
 Tag appropriately
 Keywords must be in your titles, content, image names, and URLs.
 Page header and title tags are the two most important places for your keywords
 Get reviews
Again, search engine optimization has the potential to provide dramatic results for those
willing to take the time to learn and apply its basic tenets. Once the fundamental strategies
are mastered, it is possible to achieve tremendous success online. By diligently applying the
tips included in this article, you can begin to harness the power of search engine
optimization.
