The document is a weekly newsletter from the Woodinville Community United Methodist Church (WCUMC) that provides information about upcoming church events and sermon series. The main sermon series for the week focuses on the core value of having a "Passion for the Harvest" and reaching those without Christ, as exemplified by biblical figures and missionaries. The newsletter also announces other church group meetings and events happening that week, including an evening worship service, bible studies, and a potluck dinner.

Time-Tested Core Values for Christian Living
A Sermon Series
“Passion for the Harvest”
- Having the Heart of Jesus for the Lost -
Matthew 9:35-38
Core Value – “Passion for the Harvest”
God looks for people who share a passion for those without
Christ. Jesus came to “seek and to save that which was lost.” God
desires that everyone be reached with the life transforming power of
the Gospel.
Jeremiah 20:9
I thought, I’ll forget him; I’ll no longer speak in his name. But there’s
an intense fire in my heart, trapped in my bones. I’m drained trying
to contain it; I’m unable to do it.
2. Examples of Passion
John Wesley – “Let us all be of one business. We live for this,
to save our own souls and the souls of those who hear us.”
William Booth – “Sir, some men’s passion is for gold, other
men’s passion is for fame, but my passion is for souls.”
Billy Graham – “We are kindling a fire in this cold old world full
of hatred and selfishness. Our little blaze may seen to be
unavailing, but we must keep our fire burning.
Mother Teresa – If I ever become a Saint – I will surely be one of
“darkness.” I will continually be absent from Heaven – to light
the light of those in darkness on earth.”
Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus traveled among all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, announcing the good news of the kingdom, and healing
every disease and every sickness. Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he
had compassion for them because they were troubled and helpless,
like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The size
of the harvest is bigger than you can imagine, but there are few
workers. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out
workers for his harvest.”
How does God’s Passion become OUR Passion?
1. Passion is the direct result of our love for Christ and our
commitment to Him.
2 Corinthians 5:14-15
The love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: one
died for the sake of all; therefore, all died. He died for the sake of
all so that those who are alive should live not for themselves but for
the one who died for them and was raised.
2. Passion must be nurtured.
2 Timothy 1:6-7
Because of this, I’m reminding you to revive God’s gift that is in you
through the laying on of my hands. God didn’t give us a spirit that is
timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled.
3. Passion comes from God.
Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the
door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives.
Whoever seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door is
opened.
A Prayer for Receiving and Growing in God’s Passion
3. “God, I want the passion that you have for the lost to become my
passion. I ask that from on high you send fire into my bones just as
you did to Jeremiah. Let this fire burn away anything that is keeping
me from experiencing your divine passion. Following the example of
your passionate Son, I want to “seek the lost” and help others become
followers of Christ. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
For Personal or Group Reflection
1. Have you ever felt a passion that stirred you with a “Jeremiah-like”
intensity? Describe that situation and what it felt like.
2. What does Jesus say about the harvest in John 4:35-36?
3. What does Jesus say to his disciples in Matthew 9:36-38 that would
also apply to you? How?
4. As a follower of Christ, how would you describe the state of your
passion for the lost? (Globally? Nationally? Locally?)
