11. How to Use the Pathway Template
• All pathways follow the same format
• All AA pathways reflect the 60 credits required for
completion of degree
• Slight differences between the AA and AS pathways
• Students SHOULD take the courses listed on the pathways
IN THESE SEQUENCES
– Best prepare students for further study in transfer major
at transfer institution
• Important to discuss with students what their academic and
professional goals are, and intended transfer programs.

• Think of course economy. Which previously completed
courses can satisfy the student’s new pathway

• Call your Director of Advisement when you notice that a
course is in short supply. He/she will contact the
department chair to ask if more sections can be opened
up.
• Focus on completing the Gen Ed courses, then the pre-
requisites.

• Encourage students to re-take the course as soon as possible
(ideally, the next semester), rather than waiting to re-take it.
• Explain the implications in terms of the time to complete. If a
student who declares a Biology Pathway fails MAC1105, that
could mean that the student cannot complete begin the
Chemistry series, since CHM1045 has a co-requisite of
MAC1105.
• Adjust the IEP to address the failed course.
