REPORT9 May 2013
INDIA MARKET OUTLOOK
Market on expected note advanced further facilitated partly by good corporate earnings, electoral
gains in Karnataka by ruling party and majorly by global liquidity. Nifty gained ~0.5%, however,
rate sensitive Bank Nifty closed near flat. Better 4Q’13 results by index heavy HDFC along with
Lupin lifted Nifty up, in spite of Ranbaxy’s disappointment. IT major Cognizant’s better show
would reinforce confidence among investors of improved outlook of IT sector, however impending
US Immigration reform bill is remaining a major obstacle for the sector. Cement stocks started
looking up as marketmen felt cement demand could improve from cement-heavy sourthern region
on the onset of a perceived stable govt at Karnataka. Market ignored the Supreme Court bashing
the Centre & CBI for Coalgate scam handling, as the govt got reprieve of ~2months till 10 July to
avoid action against the Law Minister. Parliament was adjourned sine a die. It seems govt is likely
to bring key economic legislations thru ordinance route, as it is now gained strength from
Karnataka gains. Market is likely to consolidate the recent gains and gain moderately upto
0.5%.

GLOBAL MARKET SCENE
Most Asian markets rose Thursday after U.S. and German equities climbed further into record
territory, with South Korean stocks jumping after a surprise rate cut by the nation’s central bank
(to 2.5%), while an improved earnings outlook spurred Japanese shares. Mainland Chinese
shares slipped after consumer prices rose more than expected in April, while Hong Kong stocks
gave up their initial advance. U.S. stocks climbed Wednesday, with both the Dow industrials and
S&P 500 hitting record closes, the Dow for a second straight session and the S&P 500 for a fifth
consecutive trading day. Profit outlooks from companies helped bolster sentiment. The Dow
Jones gained 48.92 points to 15,105.12. The S&P 500 index rose 6.73 points to 1,632.69. The
Nasdaq advanced 16.64 points to 3,413.26. European stock markets climb on Wednesday,
keying off gains in Asia after better-than-expected Chinese export data, while German stocks
climb to fresh all-time highs after upbeat industrial-production numbers. Resource firms help lift
the U.K.’s benchmark stock index, offsetting weakness in the banking sector.
