1. The domestic dog is a subspecies of the gray wolf. Dogs were the first
domesticated animals and they have been the most widely
kept working, hunting and pet animals in human history. The female
word for "dog" is "bitch” and it also refers to other canine species.
Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling
loads, protection, assisting
police and military, companionship, and, more recently, aiding
handicapped. Because of all this they have become known as “man´s
best friend”. But in some cultures, however, dogs are also a source of
meat. In 2001, there were estimated to be 400 million dogs in the
world.
2. The Great Dane, also denoted as Grand
Danois, is a German breed of domestic
dog known for its giant size. The name of
the breed in Germany is Deutsche
Dogge (German Mastiff). They are known
for their enormous bodies and great height.
The Great Dane is one of the world's tallest
dog breeds. Great Danes are known for
seeking physical affection with their
owners. This breed served as model for
the cartoon character Scooby-Doo
3. I m the German Shepherd which is a large-sized breed originated in Germany.
My breed is relatively new. It dates to 1899. I m part of the Herding Group.
German Shepherds like me have been developed for herding sheep. Our breed
is preferred for many types of work because of our intellgence, trainability and
obedience. We were very useful in the World War I. Our work includes search-
and-rescue, police and military roles and we sometimes act in movies as in the
case of Rin Tin Tin. We re the second-most popular dogs in the United States.
4. I´m a stocky, medium-sized, shorthaired dog. I have a broad, short
skull and my muzzle is square. My
coat is smooth and tight-fitting. My
breed has been developed in
Germany. Our colors are fawn or
brindled. We have strong jaws
and our powerful bite is ideal for
hanging on to a large prey.
We were bred from the Old
English Bulldog and the extinct
Bullenbeisser.
In spite of my appearance I´m
considered the perfect company
for children. My health is poor and
my life span is under average. My
flat face causes me breathing
problems. I´m also subject to
heart disease and cancer.
5. Hi everybody. I was originated in Spain but I
have, actually, been developed in England. That´s why
I´m called English Cocker Spaniel. In Spain we used to
be gun dogs. I´m active, good-natured, sporting
dog and compactly built. Outside the US, my breed is
usually known simply as the Cocker Spaniel, as is the
American Cocker Spaniel within the US. I´m one of the
favorite dogs among all pets because I´m long-haired, my
ears are long and my eyes are round and all this make me
very beautiful. My colors can have more than 30
combinations. I have a problem with my ears because
they are long and so they sink into the water dish and this
causes otitis and bad smell. But what can I do ? Nobody
is perfect.
6. My group has several breeds: Standard
Poodle, Miniature Poodle and Toy Poodle and
there´s also a variety named Medium Poodle which is
between Standard and Miniature.
My breed has many coat colors.
We have been bred in Germany. And then the breed
was standardized in France.
I´m skillful in many dog sports, including
agility, obedience, tracking, and even herding.
7. I´m a herd dog breed and it´s most probable
that I have been developed in the AngloScottish border which is a region for herding
livestock, especially sheep. I´m acrobatic, smart
and athletic. They say I´m the most intelligent
of all dogs.
We have become famous and this fame is partly
due to the fact of our appearance in the movies
in which we played the main role as Lassie.
Although the name is feminine, this role has
always been played by male dogs.
8. I ´m a small dog and I belong
to the Terrier type. I´m named
after the county in which I was
developed: Yorkshire, England.
I used to catch rats but
humans found out I would be a
good dog to keep them
company. My hair is straight
and smooth and it resembles
human hair.
9. I belong to a very old European breed of
dog. I´m a sighthound I have been bred for
coursing game and after that for Greyhound
racing.
We have become family pets mostly
because of the adoption of retired racing
Greyhounds, particularly in North America.
I`m gentle and intelligent. My legs are
strong and long, my spine is flexible my
body is slim which allows me to reach 18
meters per second race speed or 63
kilometres per hour
39 mph)
10. I come from England. Our height averages
37cm. Males in our breed weigh about 15
pounds and females weigh about 2 pouds
less than males. In spite of my size, I´m a
strong dog. I´m a protector of my master
and a very good friend too. I´m also a
good watchdog and because of my big
energy one can seldom see me standing
still. I don´t get along very well with other
breeds. My health is good and my breed´s
life span can reach 15 years, sometimes
even 20.
11. I´m short legged, long-bodied and I belong to the hound family. I ´ve been
bred to scent and chase badgers and other animals. I´m talking about the
standard size of my family because the miniature ones were developed to
hunt rabbits and other smaller preys. Nowadays my role in life is just to
be a family pet. I´m very proud to say that I remain in the roll of the top
ten dogs in the United States.
12. Well, I have no specific
breed but I´ve been
encharged of closing this
presentation. I hope you
have enjoyed. See you
soon.
