1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE
PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING
THIS PRODUCT?
Question 6
By Victoria Prater
2. We used a different camera when we filmed our preliminary task to when we filmed our main task. For the
preliminary task we used a camcorder which was quite easy to use and understand but for our main task we used
a Nikon camera which was just as good and it made the image of the recording much better than the camcorder.
The camera we used, I have used it before in photography so I knew how to work it better, so I had previous
experience with it. We were all comfortable with using the sound kit and tripod etc. from school as we have all
had a go at using the equipment before and it was compatible with the camera. Due to the personal experience
we had with all the equipment we didn’t need any time working out how to work it which would have slowed the
process down massively, and we were confident we would get all the camera shots we were aiming for when we
planned it. We used different camera angles to show of our camera skills and to show how capable we are to do
them.
The camera we used was quite professional,
so we were able to shoot in different locations
for different lighting and also experiment with
the different settings on the camera to get the
right shots we needed to make the task accurate.

3. The sound kit we used
included:
Boom pole
A Microphone which plugs into
the camera
SOUND KIT
The sound kit was the same equipment we used when we filmed our
preliminary task, however, in our preliminary task we had some
difficultly with the sound being really loud on some parts of the
footage and some being quite quiet compared to the main task, this
resulted in uneven noise which can get disruptive to listen to at some
parts. We realised the cause of the problem was the microphone was
ether too close or too far away which made the sound change, so for
our main task we was much more comfortable using it as we held it at
a constant spot even though we only had to use it once for the only
line of dialogue. This made the overall sound for our main task much
more clear and consistent throughout.
4. For both our main task and preliminary task we used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the footage we filmed
and to put it all together so it flows nicely. To do this we had to know:
how to get the footage from the camera onto the computer by dragging the footage over to this software,
changing the different sound and volume levels or even including your own music to the piece, editing all
the shots into a sequence, adding the voiceover we used over the top of the footage, adding the additional
information such as titles and sound effects and finally putting your final sequence onto YouTube to
imbed it to Tumblr. We managed to succeed when doing this in our main task.

The Voiceover-
When we edited the voiceover, we found it difficult to get rid of any
unwanted sound in the background and to make it so you could
hear it
properly. We wanted to make the voiceover sound emotional but
sound like they are reading as they are reading a poem, we tried out
different sound effect transitions, in order to slightly change the
voice effect to sound more emotional. This resulted in, the accurate
piece we was looking for.

5. After cutting all the footage down to where
we wanted, we still found the length of our
task was still longer than expected it to be,
so we had to cut more parts out but make
sure it still looks right as we needed the action
matching to be right. But the main problem
was fading out the music at the right time to be able
to hear the voiceover.

6. FOR EXAMPLE…
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO
Although you
may not be
able to see it,
there is little
dots which are
called key
frames which
start from the
top of the
music and then
goes to a
diagonal line
downwards and
that’s fading it
out and you do
the same the
other way but
from bottom to
top.
There was a button to
Click the key frames
Which you would
Then Go on to using
That To fade in and
Out Your music.
The music had to be

Also we used this software to apply our soundtrack music. This was done by
importing the track that we wanted from the Youtube’s free downloadable library
and it was called days are long and then layering it on top of the footage. We then
obviously added in key frames to quiet the music down to hear the voiceover which
we saw from the last slide.
In our preliminary task, some parts of the sound seemed to be problematic. For
example, the cuts between the different shot reverse shots when they were having
the conversation in the attic seemed to look unrealistic and fake. But the music and
sound managed to overcome the ‘unrealistic’ feel to the conversation. So in the main
task, we decided to not put no conversation in the piece even though we could have
used quicker cuts to stop the unrealistic feel.
8. As you know already Tumblr is the blogging site for our AS Media, so when I
started this course I was oblivious to what Tumblr was and didn’t know much
about it as I didn’t have my own account. So I had to learn how to use it and get
to know all the basic information about it. For example:
