Mexican painter Frida Kahlo led a life marked by physical and emotional suffering beginning with polio at a young age. She had a serious bus accident that left her disabled and took up painting while confined to her bed. Her art and style was greatly influenced by her husband Diego Rivera, who she divorced but later remarried. Kahlo had affairs, including with Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky, and experienced turmoil in her marriage. She advocated for communism and had her last major art exhibition while ill in a hospital bed, entertaining guests until her death.
