This document discusses working with and educating very young users (ages 5-7) about online safety. It provides statistics on young children's technology and social media use. The key message taught is to tell a trusted adult if anything online makes them feel worried, uncomfortable or confused. Lesson plans are designed for early education frameworks and are meant to be easy to use and interactive. Accompanying materials are suggested to reinforce the lessons for parents. An upcoming online safety character and tips for new parents are also mentioned.

• 5-7s: 2% have a smart phone (Ofcom). 67% use net at
home. 5.2 hours internet user per week.
• 61% of 5-10s have own games console. (Childwise
2011). 80% of 5-7s use games consoles.
• TV most popular. For 5-7s gaming is second most used
medium. (Ofcom 2011)
• SNS activity – 23% of 5-7s (Ofcom 2010/11).
• Parents of 5-7s most likely (80%) to have rules/actively
supervise.

when something happens that makes you
feel worried, uncomfortable or confused,
you should tell/ask an adult for help.
