  9. 9. Social security, taxation and inequality VATT studies the impact of social security and taxation on the labour market and inequality. We study the effects of changes of policy, using both microsimulation and microeconometrics. By being active in Finnish networks The Economicum campus shared with three academic economics departments (University of Helsinki, the Aalto University School of Business and Hanken School of Economics) is vital for VATT Helsinki Graduate School of Economics: 15 new professorships by 2022

By focusing on issues pertinent to the preparation of economic policy Examples of our recent focus areas: • Health and social services reform and regional government reform • Economics of education • Housing policy and housing allowances • Basic income experiment and other RCTs: randomisation is the key in terms of quality and assessment • Energy taxation and business subsidies
