Logline: School teacher-cum-story writer’s son, a civil engineer
fulfills his father’s grand wish to build a school in his
mother’s name after a legal fight against a Bollywood movie
producer, who plagiarized his father’s story and produced an
Oscar winning movie called “मातृभूिम (Motherland.)”
Genre: DRAMA
SYNOPSIS/PLOT SUMMARY:
BEGINNING:
In 1960’s, SHANTHARAM works as a school teacher in the Palghar a
village near Bombay city.
Students love his method of teaching and respect him a lot for
his knowledge.
After School hours, he spends most of his time in writing songs
and stories.
People gathered to celebrate martyrs day observation in Palghar,
as a tribute to mark the fight against the quit India movement.
People gather in large numbers near Hutatma Chowck.
School children perform a play written by Shantharam.
The play gets appreciation from village people.
Few of his colleagues appreciate his play and advice him to
visit Bombay city to try his luck in Hindi films.
In the future, he wants to build a school in mother’s name.
During his visit to Bombay, tells a story to a movie producer.
Inspired by his story, the producer asks him to give the story.
Then he gives them a written document.
Then producers ask him to contact after some time.

Meanwhile, epidemic disease spreads across Bombay and adjoining
areas.
Due to an epidemic, people of Bombay suffer a lot that result in
many deaths.
Shantharam becomes the victim of epidemic disease.
His wife RADHA gives birth to a baby boy.
According to government rules Radha gets a job.
She relocates to Bombay.
She takes care of her son.
As the time goes by, her lonely son tops class 12 exams.
This brings immense joy to Radha and she also gets appreciation
for his achievement.
Her Neighbors appreciate Radha’s efforts in the success.
People arrange a function to honor Radha and her son in Palghar.
Radha and her son get a grand welcome.
MIDDLE:
Then, she molds him into a good human being and teaches good
values in life and insists him to follow his father’s footsteps.
Her son becomes civil engineer.
After 25 years, VINOD SHANTHARAM visits his father’s working
place.
During the visit, comes to know that his father is a very good
person and also about his excellence in teaching profession.
Few village people disclose his father’s interest in the
composition of patriotic songs and stories.
They also tell him about his frequent visits to Prabhat Film
Company, Bombay Talkies and other famous film studios like RK
and Filmalaya.

One village person hands him a few written documents belonged to
his father.
He also gets his father’s few documents from a touring talkies
manager.
He thoroughly goes through his father’s written documents.
After analysis, he comes to know that his father always
portrayed patriotism as the main theme.
By reading documents he comes to know about the life of ordinary
people who stood against the British government and also about
the atrocity of the British government during quit India
movement.
He returns back to Bombay with those documents.
Then he searches for some clues and gathers some information and
then reaches writer’s association.
He comes to know that, his father’s story has already become the
Movie with a title ”मातृभूिम (MOTHER LAND)”, by a famous production
house.
He comes to know that ”(मातृभूिम)” is the movie which got best
foreign language film at the Oscars.
END:
Then he takes on production house and sues them with legal
notice.
With a lot of struggle, he succeeds in getting due respect to
his father.
Since movie won an Oscar award and got worldwide recognition,
the Court calculates movie profit and asks the producers to pay
the royalty amount of about rupees 9crore to his son Vinod on
behalf of Shantharam.
The court also orders for a paper publication in all National
dailies that will declare his father as the original writer and
also an apology for plagiarism by the producers.

In the end,
He fulfills his father’s grand wish.
First, being a Civil engineer fulfills his father’s wish, when
he inaugurates “BHARATHI SHANTHARAM SCHOOL OF ARTS”.
Second, as a tribute to his father, with the remaining royalty
amount he also opens “SHANTHARAM SCHOOL OF FILMS”.
Finally, Bollywood fraternity recommends Shantharams’ name for
the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
The major cast consists of 3 Men / 1 Woman, as follows:
SHANTHARAM: (28 - 45 yrs), - School teacher and story writer.
RADHA: (20 – 60yrs.), – Housewife. After husband’s death gets a
government job and her disciplined life gives a better education
to Vinod.
VINOD SHANTHARAM: (25– 45 yrs.), – Civil engineer by profession
follows mother’s footsteps and father’s good values.
PRODUCER: (30 – 70yrs.), - Film producer who migrated to Bombay
during partition.
