Book: Inside- Out Intermediate

Unit 2 Relax

Communicative goal: Expressing feelings

Grammar focus: Present simple VS Present continuous

Vocabulary focus: Feelings

Recycle language: Adverbs of frequency, present tenses.



Activation: Students look at the picture and describe it. They mention why the girl is
reading the book `The Little Book of Calm’.

Comprehension and clarification: Students read the text on page 17 and then answer
some questions to check general understanding of the text. The teacher will elicit
different adjectives of feelings. Then the teacher asks further questions so as to elicit
from students sentences illustrating present simple and present continuous.
Afterwards, they will work on the differences.
Application:

Activity 1:

       Crossword: The aim is to get students to recycle vocabulary. Students read the
clues and find the correct word so as to complete the crossword. Students will use
Hot Potatoes, JCross.




Activity 2:

Feelings (opposites): Students will recycle vocabulary. They will use Hot Potatoes,
Jmatch. They will read a word and then decide which the opposite is, by clicking on
the right word.



Activity 3:

Present simple and adverbs of frequency: In this activity students have to put the
words in the correct order so as to form grammatically correct sentences. Students
will be using Hot Potatoes, Jmix.



Activity 4:

Present simple or present continuous? Students fill in the blanks with the correct form
of the verbs in brackets. Students will use Hot Potatoes, JCloze.



Activity 5:

Song: Friday I´m in love by The Cure. Students listen to the video and fill in the blanks
with a suitable word.



Reflection:

The aim is to get students to reflect on what they have studied. They have to answer
ten questions, each of which deals with different linguistic items covered throughout
the lesson. Students will use Hot Potato, JQuiz
