C. Appreciates the role of civil society in promoting common good equal
and just.
Let’s have a recap.
How do you differentiate
the status of living of
those people living in a
progressive cities than in
rural areas?
How does our economy
help in improving one’s
life?
Economy is an area of the production, distribution and trade, as well as
consumption of goods and services by different agents. It is having a
sufficient budget of an area or country that needs to be satisfied with the
basic needs of the constituents in order to live well, efficiently and
peacefully.
Give your thoughts on this…
Let’s start…
Give the specific role
/roles of each
picture shown.
What do you think is their
greatest help in
achieving common good
to our civil society?
 is the place outside the family, the state, and the
choice of where people interact to advance common
goals or goals.
Terms to remember…
Civil Law
 is the system of law concerned with private relations
between members of a community rather than criminal,
military, or religious affairs.
Civil Society
 is society considered as a community of citizens linked by
common interests and collective activity.
Media
 is the main means of mass communication (broadcasting,
publishing, and the internet) regarded collectively.
State
 is a nation or territory considered as an organized political
community under one government.
CIVIL SOCIETY
 These are laws that were formed because of the collective joy and desire of
the people to meet their needs.
Sometimes, there are times when the
government fails because of the
amount of responsibility it has. In
other words, Civil Society is the eyes
of society.
The government makes and implements of laws to ensure its
compliance the needs of society. Even so, in many cases the
government fails in this goal.
The voluntary organizing of ourselves towards mutual support.
 It is not promoted by politicians or by businessman with self-
interest.
 It is motivated by the desire of citizens who meet their needs
to fail to address government and trade (business).
CIVIL SOCIETY
 It conducts responding that they themselves are promoting,
hence the development of sustainable development that is not
like of hurried and temporary solution of government and trade.
CIVIL SOCIETY
1. Peace Advocates Zamboanga (1994)
2. Anti-Sexual Harassment Act (1995)
3. Women in Development and Nation-Building Act (1995)
4. Anti-Rape Law (1997)
5. Rape Victims Assistance and Protection Act (1998)
6. Anti- Trafficking of Persons Act (2003)
7. Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (2004)
EXAMPLES OF CIVIL SOCIETY
INVOLVEMENT
1. Volunteering
 No one forced, intimidated, or harassing its members to get involved.
2. Open communication
 No restrained or dictated in expression of attitude.
3. No classification
 Not considered the social status of the members.
4. Being organized.
 Because it changes the situation according to the responses
needs, also changes organizational structure to match in the
current situation.
5. Appreciated.
 It promotes self-interest but the common good - truth and
spirituality.
CHARACTERISTICS OF VARIOUS FORMS OF CIVIL SOCIETY
 It is anything that is “in between” or mediating to sender
 If delivery of information is bulk and simultaneous that we do, we call it
mass media: newspapers, radio, television, movies or internet.
 In providing reliable and important information, the reputation and the
good name must be maintained for the common good of the other
members of society.
THE MEDIA
To promote for the good of every member of society.
This is reason why the role of the media is telling the whole truth, and
immediately correcting some information, if in case something goes wrong
with the information that may be the basis of others in deciding what to do.
The media is only stored by reality and the society needs for good in
each of its members. It will not be good for anyone lies as a result of adding
and misleading information to truth.
THE MAIN PURPOSE OF MEDIA
No matter how much you earn for yourself, you will still
feel meaningless.
Being a believer is not losing your citizenship. Indeed,
your faith is where you live by coexisting with society and
responding to the call of all that, "Please."
THE CHURCH
Pope John Paul II:
“The power of the media is not a destructive force but a love that
creates. ”
San Ignacio:
“When we hide, there the devil will work. ”
In what ways does civil society fulfill their shortcomings in
extending out its goodness to our society? Explain.
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
How does the government balance its power in reaching out the
civil society?
What is the role of the church in our civil society?
How will you give your stand on the separation of church and
state?
