Alpina, famous for its red triangle signature, is an independent, family-owned
fine watchmaking manufacture based in Geneva, Switzerland. Founded
in 1883, Alpina’s watchmaking history spans more than 130 years. A true
pioneer of the Swiss watchmaking industry, Alpina has been the source of
numerous innovations, patents, calibers and chronometers. Alpina invented
the concept of the sport watch as we know it today, with the birth of its
legendary Alpina 4 in 1938.
Faithful to its long tradition of creating mechanical calibers, Alpina
manufactures, in its Geneva-based Manufacture, four in-house movements:
the Tourbillon AL-980, the World Timer AL-718, the Automatic Regulator AL-
950 and the Small Date Automatic AL-710.
Alpina’s mission is to design and engineer luxury sport watches that operate
with the greatest precision and reliability possible in the most demanding
sporting environments, like the Alps.

Our mission is now and has always
been to manufacture extremely
reliable professional sports watches,
respecting and implementing the
“Alpinist Principle” in manufacturing,
design and technological innovation.
Our work is deeply inspired by the
legacy of our visionary founder,
Gottlieb Hauser.
We are committed to producing
extremely robust sport watches that
perform to the highest precision and
with the greatest reliability in the
most demanding situations. Alpina
manufactures watches specifically
engineered and built to withstand
extreme natural environments,
especially at high altitudes and great
depths. Their functions, materials
and usability are purposely designed
to ensure that you accomplish your
climbing, flying, diving or sailing
missions.
Innovation, when combined with
purpose, becomes progress.
At Alpina, our innovations are
exclusively devoted to serve the
functional and design needs of
those individuals challenging the
hardest places on earth. Such as the
Alpine summits.
Our customers benefit from
continuous technical advances that
match the ever-increasing demands
of modern sport challenges. Our
manufacture is both workshop and
hi-tech lab, and Alpina continuously
invests in state-of-the-art machinery
and processes. Our watch makers
use the most modern, high-precision
tools available in the world today,
and every watch undergoes strict
quality control tests and inspection
before leaving our factory.

In 2006, Alpina moved to a purpose
built, hi-tech manufacturing plant in
Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. Covering
3200 square meters, this building
is now a second home to the
dedicated craftsmen and women
who produce and assemble our
movements and watches. It is also
the base from which all the other
manual and automated processes
that are necessary to get your watch
to you are performed.
PROGRESS AND INDEPENDENCE
The history of watch making in
Switzerland can be traced back
hundreds of years, to when dairy
farmers used their downtime in
the winter months to assemble
precision watches. While the legacy
of these initial horological pioneers
continues, in that we still manufacture
the finest Swiss movements in-
house, progress has opened many
new technological opportunities.
Nowadays, computers, laser-guided
machines, nano technology and
state-of-the-art microscopes are
all part of the armoury of the truly
modern watchmaker. Continuous
investments in hi-tech equipment
and the development of new and
innovative processes are at the core
of Alpina’s avant-garde professional
sports watch manufacturing
operations.
At Alpina, we fully embrace the
progress made to date, and today
we are leaders in technological
development. We are determined
to assure continued improvement
in the performance, functionality
and quality of our watches. our
independence.

ONE THING WE NEVER
CHANGER AND NEVER WILL:
OUR INDEPENDENCE
5. From the very beginning, as far back
as 1883, Alpina has been associated
with horological innovation. Whether
it was our innovative way of creating
an excellent working environment,
or through the introduction of new
quality control criteria before anyone
else, Alpina has always sought ways
to improve how things are done.
The story of alpina was originally
brought to life when Swiss watch
making visionary Gottlieb Hauser
founded the “alpina Swiss
Watchmakers Corporation,” and in
doing so united the leading Swiss
independent watchmakers, who
became known as the “Alpinists.”
Initially, the Corporation was
developed to optimize the
manufacturing of movements and
timepieces by forming a federating
of cooperating manufacturers and
suppliers, but alpina soon started
developing and producing in-
house calibres and chronometers.
In 1901, the trademark “alpina”
was registered and appeared for
the first time on high-end calibres
and watches produced by Gottlieb
Hauser.
In the 1920s, alpina was already
being sold in over 2,000 stores
worldwide, an exceptional figure for
those days. It is no exaggeration to
say that alpina was one of the first
leading manufacturers of Swiss
watches.
Today, the ideals and innovation
upon which alpina was founded are
still alive in our Geneva manufacture,
where we make professional sport
watches to the most exacting
horological standards.

1926
Alpina establishes an international watch guarantee.
The guarantee was first introduced for Switzerland
in 1908 and in 1926 became valid throughout the
world.
1933
Alpina presents its first sports watch, the ‘Block Uhr’.
1938
alpina introduces the legendary ‘alpina 4’. The
number ‘4’ alluded to the four essential qualities of
a sports watch: 1/ Antimagnetic, 2/ Water-resistant,
3/ Anti-shock and 4/ A stainless steel highly robust
case.
1959
Alpina introduces the ‘alpina 4’ Chronograph. The
dial featured a telemeter and a units-meter, making it
ideal for sports and industrial applications.
2013
Alpina celebrates its 130th anniversary in sports
watch manufacturing with the Alpina 130.
2014
Alpina re-introduce its legendary Alpiner

1938, featuring the 4 sports properties:
1/ Antimagnetic, 2/ Antishock, 3/ Water-resistant ,
and 4/ Stainless steel highly robust case.

6. During its 130-year history, Alpina
has always been a manufacturer of
calibres and complications. Among
its remarkable 20th century calibres,
one can find industry references
such as the 877, the “engine” of
the “Alpina Techno,” and the hand-
wound 592, one of the sturdiest
watch movements of its generation
and the one which changed the
sports watch forever.
Since our comeback in 2002, we
have launched four new Alpina in-
house developed and engineered
calibres into the market. With the
introduction of the Tourbillon,
Regulator, World Timer and Small
Date manufacture calibres, Alpina
has once again taken its rightful
place among the small and select
group of independent Swiss watch
manufacturers that completely
develop and produce their own
calibres in-house.
