What Is Social Media ?
• The best way to define social media is to break it down. Media is
an instrument on communication, like a newspaper or a radio, so
social media would be a social instrument of communication.
• What Are Some Social Media Websites?
Now that we have answered the question of what is
social media, we can move on to social media websites. Because
social media is such a broad term, it covers a large range of
websites. But the one common link between these websites is
that you are able to interact with the website and interact with
other visitors.

• Here are some examples of social media websites:
• Social Bookmarking. (Del.icio.us, Blink list, Simply) Interact by
tagging websites and searching through websites bookmarked by
other people.
• Social News. (Digg, Propeller, Reedit) Interact by voting for
articles and commenting on them.
• Social Networking. (Facebook, Hi5, Last.FM) Interact by adding
friends, commenting on profiles, joining groups and having
discussions.
• Social Photo and Video Sharing. (YouTube, Flicker) Interact by
sharing photos or videos and commenting on user submissions.
• Wikis. (Wikipedia, Wikia) Interact by adding articles and editing
existing articles.

Face book
• Pursuant to the Facebook Terms of Service, you own your
content. However, you do give Facebook certain rights, including
a license to use any of your content that you post on or in
connection with Facebook. If you don’t like this, you can delete
your content, but deleting won’t work if “your content has been
shared with others, and they have not deleted it.” (So, essentially,
once you’ve shared it, there’s no taking it back.
Ownership of social media content:
Social media content is generated through social media
interactions done by the users the site. There have always been a
huge debate on the ownership of the content on social media
platforms since it is generated by the users and hosted by the
company.

Listen To Your Customer’s Opinion :
• There's nothing that is more effective for improving the quality of
your product or service than listening to your customers.
• But often businesses don't solicit their customers' opinions.
Sometimes the problem is that business owners or managers
don't know how to go about setting up a process, or think that
obtaining customer comments will be too expensive or complex.
• But sometimes the barrier to instituting a plan for listening to the
customer is simply the fear of what they will hear.

• Strengthen customer service :
The pace of technology is ever-quickening. Feel
like your business is struggling to keep up? We do– It’s no
secret that the online marketplace and popularity of e-readers
have forever changed our business of bookselling. Whenever
we feel the push of technology, along with getting the push
we need to learn something new, we remind ourselves to
focus on what has always helped us to stand out—our
customer service.

Build Your Personal Reputation :
• Whether you’re trying to build your personal brand, business
brand or a product brand, the basic steps to developing a
successful brand are always the same. Brands aren’t built
overnight. Be prepared to commit to the long-term and don’t
give up.
• Building a brand is just like building a reputation in that you need
to prove yourself again and again in order for people to put their
trust in you and become loyal to you. This holds true for
individuals, small companies and even the largest, most trusted
brands, such as Kraft Foods and Disney.

1. Be specific :
Know what your brand stands for, and know what
your brand promises. Your brand promise should be precise
and attainable, and you should be able to communicate it
clearly. For example, don’t just say your brand stands for
quality. That’s a broad statement that any individual or
company can make. How does your brand specifically live and
breathe quality? Those specifics are what will make your
brand stand out from your competition.

2. Be authoritative :
Once you know what your brand stands for and
promises, don’t be afraid to flaunt it. You need to make
everyone else believe you’re the leader and authority in your
area of expertise and specialization. Don’t meekly
communicate your message. Say it with powerful words and
conviction.
3. Be consistent :
Get your brand message out there and don’t
waiver on it. I’ve read statistics in the past that state as soon
as you’re tired of your message, your customers are just
starting to recognize it. Commit to your brand message. A
consistent message and customer experience are critical
elements to building your brand.

4. Be honest :
In today’s world, people welcome honesty and
transparency, and your business will be rewarded for it. Don’t
offer something you can’t deliver. Instead, admit your
fallibility and deliver on your promises. Integrity goes a long
way.
5. Be relentless :
Get your brand message out there. Then get it out again
and again and again. People are inundated with a myriad of
messages each day. It’s not only critical that you try to stand
out from the competition but it’s equally important that you
are not forgotten. Don’t drop the ball on communicating your
brand promise and building your brand image. Your efforts
will be rewarded in time.

Linked-In :
• Company search: one of the best ways to use LinkedIn is if you
have a very specific company you are interested in. you search
on that company, and hopefully find people who are
connected to other people you know.
• Email: when I was first laid off, I sent a large email to everyone
in my LinkedIn network, letting them know of my situation,
and asking for any help or people they could put me in touch
with them.

• Basic networking :
I am now much more connected with people who are
involved in areas I’m interested in.
• Job posting :
I am connected to a few people who know about jobs that I
would not have otherwise known, i.e. @ social media job or
other recruiters.

Understanding Social Media Basics

Media is an instrument on communication, like a newspaper or a radio, so social media would be a social instrument of communication. • What Are Some Social Media Websites? Now that we have answered the question of what is social media, we can move on to social media websites. Because social media is such a broad term, it covers a large range of websites. But the one common link between these websites is that you are able to interact with the website and interact with other visitors.

(Del.icio.us, Blink list, Simply) Interact by tagging websites and searching through websites bookmarked by other people. • Social News. (Digg, Propeller, Reedit) Interact by voting for articles and commenting on them. • Social Networking. (Facebook, Hi5, Last.FM) Interact by adding friends, commenting on profiles, joining groups and having discussions. • Social Photo and Video Sharing. (YouTube, Flicker) Interact by sharing photos or videos and commenting on user submissions. • Wikis. (Wikipedia, Wikia) Interact by adding articles and editing existing articles.

However, you do give Facebook certain rights, including a license to use any of your content that you post on or in connection with Facebook. If you don’t like this, you can delete your content, but deleting won’t work if “your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.” (So, essentially, once you’ve shared it, there’s no taking it back. Ownership of social media content: Social media content is generated through social media interactions done by the users the site. There have always been a huge debate on the ownership of the content on social media platforms since it is generated by the users and hosted by the company.

Trainings by Vidya Bhagwat Listen To Your Customer’s Opinion : • There's nothing that is more effective for improving the quality of your product or service than listening to your customers. • But often businesses don't solicit their customers' opinions. Sometimes the problem is that business owners or managers don't know how to go about setting up a process, or think that obtaining customer comments will be too expensive or complex. • But sometimes the barrier to instituting a plan for listening to the customer is simply the fear of what they will hear.

We do– It’s no secret that the online marketplace and popularity of e-readers have forever changed our business of bookselling. Brands aren’t built overnight. Be prepared to commit to the long-term and don’t give up. • Building a brand is just like building a reputation in that you need to prove yourself again and again in order for people to put their trust in you and become loyal to you. This holds true for individuals, small companies and even the largest, most trusted brands, such as Kraft Foods and Disney.

Your brand promise should be precise and attainable, and you should be able to communicate it clearly. For example, don’t just say your brand stands for quality. That’s a broad statement that any individual or company can make. How does your brand specifically live and breathe quality? Those specifics are what will make your brand stand out from your competition.

You need to make everyone else believe you’re the leader and authority in your area of expertise and specialization. Don’t meekly communicate your message. Say it with powerful words and conviction. 3. Be consistent : Get your brand message out there and don’t waiver on it. I’ve read statistics in the past that state as soon as you’re tired of your message, your customers are just starting to recognize it. Commit to your brand message. A consistent message and customer experience are critical elements to building your brand.

Instead, admit your fallibility and deliver on your promises. Integrity goes a long way. 5. Be relentless : Get your brand message out there. Then get it out again and again and again. People are inundated with a myriad of messages each day. It’s not only critical that you try to stand out from the competition but it’s equally important that you are not forgotten. Don’t drop the ball on communicating your brand promise and building your brand image. Your efforts will be rewarded in time.

Trainings by Vidya Bhagwat Linked-In : • Company search: one of the best ways to use LinkedIn is if you have a very specific company you are interested in. you search on that company, and hopefully find people who are connected to other people you know. • Email: when I was first laid off, I sent a large email to everyone in my LinkedIn network, letting them know of my situation, and asking for any help or people they could put me in touch with them.

Trainings by Vidya Bhagwat • Twitter: • Basic networking : I am now much more connected with people who are involved in areas I’m interested in. • Job posting : I am connected to a few people who know about jobs that I would not have otherwise known, i.e. @ social media job or other recruiters.
