3. St. Cyril and
Methodius
are Byzantine diplomats,
Christian missionaries and
creators of the Glagolitic
alphabet. They are known
as Thessaloniki brothers.
Methodius is the biggest
and Constantine/Cyril/ is
the youngest in the family
of seven sons.

education in
Thessaloniki
Constantine-Cyril
shows a tendency to
philosophy and
poetry.
In 843, Constantine-Cyril
began to study in
school Magnaur.

fluent speaker of Old
Slavonic, Greek, Latin,

knowledge of Syriac and
Arabic.
He probably acquired

came to Bulgaria to

established in Pliska

initiative of Nayden
Guerov - writer,
linguist and folklorist.

one of the most popular songs in Bulgaria
Stoyan Mihaylovski wrote the
poem in 1892
Lyubomir Pipkov wrote the

Bulgaria.
The day of St. St. Cyril
and Methodius,
celebrated by the
Bulgarian Orthodox
Church on May 11th,
was changed to May
24th .

Day of Bulgarian
Education and
Culture and
Slavonic Letters
since 1968.
