4. What is Assistive
Technology?
According to M.D. Roblyer, assistive technologies are:
A device that was created for the purpose of
accommodating people with physical or sensory
disabilities
For example, Visual impaired students may use a
speech text reader that reads the online text aloud.
A student with a minor vision impairment may use
reading glasses when reading
A wheelchair may help a physical disabled student
re-gain mobility

Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act is a
law required by the U.S. Government
It protects the civil rights, employment,
education, and the electronic device use
of Americans with disabilities
There are two sections within this law
that requires educational institutions to
adhere to :

Education Act (IDEA)
Created to protect special needs children in:
IDEA - accommodating special needs students
Providing free public education
Creating state & local funds (to purchase
educational resources and services)
Requiring local school districts to be held accou
ntable in providing public education to special
needs children
