Mexican Culture Experience
For this semester of spanish, I wanted to experience the Mexican culture for myself. I wanted to
taste foods, watch dancing and look at souvenirs at a giftshop. When I had heard about the
Festival of Nations I remembered that that would all be there. My mom always make me go to
the festival and after numerous years of her dragging me there, I was beginning to like it. This
experience was going to be something I knew I could write about and the festival might mean
more to me now. My goal was to learn about some new countries I had never really paid attention
to. I watched how the Armenians dance, how delicious crepes are and how to dance like nobody's
watching. I learned about beef empanadas from Colombia and got to feel real alpaca hair. The
Swiss make beautiful plates out of wood, and when they got hot you could smell the wood. When

A Mexican Culture Family
I was born into a Mexican culture family where I was born and raised in Fort Worth. Both my
parents are American citizens but something important to know about my background is my
mother is from America and my father is from Mexico, which also means I have family who have

Growing up in an area with a large Mexican community I never really understood how much my

I was born and raised in the beautiful country of Venezuela, in the lively and incessantly colorful
city of Caracas until I was eight years old. I underwent the most important period of mental
development in Caracas, meaning that my early identity and culture, my attitude towards the world

My Mexican Culture
Many people used to think that their heritage means nothing to them, but for me it means a lot.
Growing up my family would always talk in Spanish or they would talk about how they love
being Mexican, but I never fully understood why being Mexican was so important to my family.
One day I decided to sit down with my parents, and ask them why is our Mexican heritage so
important? They would tell me all sorts of stories such as: how they were apart of a dance group
called Ballet Folklorico De Topeka, my mom would always tell me how she likes listening
/singing to music. Me personally Mexican music is so much better than songs in English. Why I
say that is because Mexican music is so much more poetic. As a little girl, I learned a lot about my
Mexican heritage. I even joined my parents in their dance group and still involved in it today. Over

Mexican culture dates far back as the 13th century. This is when the Aztecs were prevalent in
northern mexico. Aztecs were a people who were all about war and honor. They made many
enemies going to war with smaller tribes and brutally killed their enemies. In the 16th century the
Aztecs Empire crumbled due to the invasion led by Hernan Cortez. Disease, superior weapons, and

I'm just a teenager who lives in the United States. My parents are originally from a small pueblo in
Mexico so my cultural background is Mexican. The Mexican culture includes bright colors, loud
music, good food, and loud people who love to dance. A quincenera is a traditional celebration
when a Hispanic girl turns 15. My cousin's quincenera was not too long ago , so I'll tell you about
what I remember and how they connect to my culture. The party scene was where all the Mexican

The food being served was birria which is goat meat drowned in a red sauce. The birria was
served with a side of aroz rojo (red rice). It may sound like a very simple dish but it is really good.
It is traditional for any quincenera to have a surprise dance with the chambelanes, or the escorts. I
was asked to be one of the escorts and I gladly accepted. We had to learn how to dance ballet
folkorico which includes a lot of zapateado which involves a lot of foot movement. We had an
instructor teach us the basics pod zapateado. Then we had to learn the whole routine the
instructor had made up for us. The day of the party we performed the whole dance routine and in
the end everyone was cheering for us which was a sign that we did an excellent job dancing. My
culture is really known for dancing very good and listening to loud music. We like to listen to
Banda, which is a Mexican music group consisting of trumpets, clarinets, tarolas, tamborazo, tuba,

Virgin of Guadalupe. This is celebrated on December 12 by most of the population, even those
who are only nominally religious. On this holiday, people remember the day the Virgin of
Guadalupe reportedly appeared to a man named Juan Diego in 1531 (Cline, 2015). People across
the country celebrate with dancing, food, and music and many even make a pilgrimage across the
country to celebrate at the basilica in Mexico City. The Virgin of Guadalupe is the country's patron
saint, and "her image has been used throughout Mexican history, not only as a religious icon but
also as a sign of patriotism" ("Everything You Need to Know about la Virgen de Guadalupe," 2013).
