Notas do Editor

  1. The travel distribution game reminds me of a 8 line super highway with traffic whizzing by at break neck speed.
  2. Whipping by are new competitors. The motorcoach’s have signs across the front that say Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia- the electronic internet based travel retailers. The 18-wheelers also have signs across there side saying- 1-800 Cruises, Cruises are Us, Vacations to Go and others of what we used to call the the “800” number retailers.
  3. But most home based or independent travel agents are equipped with something a bit more modest. They are just trying to reach the next exit ALIVE.
  4. But, smart agents are discovering the Secret. The secret to survival is to get off the highway- get away from the mass merchandisers and electronic retailers. Concentrate on products that fall under their radar and enhance your unique position in your community. Niche cruises can be this area of specialty for you. The Result will be more business and better commissions.
  5. In today’s environment you need to identify those programs which can help you stand apart from your competitors. Products and techniques that get you out of the endless price based marketing of the 800 number, internet and mass market distributors. Concentrating on select products can help you to add value to the transaction, satisfy your clients and open the door to higher commissions.
  6. You have heard it before, limiting your focus allows you to acquire the knowledge, providing you clients with meaningful information to make great vacation decisions. When you couple that with promotion you have a winning combination that will put bucks in you bank account.
  7. Becoming a Niche Cruise Specialist will put you on the list for a regular email newsletter bonus commissions and special fam programs. Many NCMA Members have there own training programs to provide you with more opportunity for growth. Learning is a continuing process.

The company originated in a small town in Norway. 3 Olsen brothers bought their first ships and began international shipping company in 1848. - visually have to prove to you that it was 1848 – check out that picture Offices for the company are spread throughout the world, with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines being based in the UK – city of Ipswich about and hour from London.
  10. As a UK based company, the majority of our cruises depart from the UK.. Dover, Southampton, Newcastle and Liverpool… With so many ports in the Uk, this is a great way to sell a land stay and cruise from the UK! We also offer sectors of our World Cruises.. Eg Dover / San Francisco, San Francisco / Sydney, Sydney / Dubai. Next World Cruise leaves January 5, 2010
  11. In the current 2009 / 2010 programme we feature over 300 ports of call in over 130 countries. Our itineraries range from 3 night mini cruises within Europe, a great way for new to cruisers to get used to concept, or indeed those who have not cruised with FOCL before to get a feel for what we offer.. Right up to 107 night epic World Cruises, cruising the globe with ports of call in far flung places. With our Norwegian maritime heritage, we consider the fjords our home.. And therefore our Captains know these waters like the back of their hands..often sailing into waters not large enough to handle the large cruise liners.
  12. The latest addition to the FOCL fleet is the Balmoral. She is slightly larger in size, and has a wider choice of facilities. Prior to joining us she was the Norwegian Crown (NCL) and formerly the Crown Odyssey. Shortly after joining the FOCL fleet in Feb 2008 she had an extensive refit and refurb involving lengthening, the vessel carries approx 1300 passengers. She has several restaurants and indeed two main entertainment lounges as well as a large spa, on deck jacuzzis, two freshwater swimming pools and golf nets. Balmoral will be cruising out of Dover throughout 2009 and 2010 offering fantastic itineraries to northern Europe, the Med., Canary islands, Africa. And 2 World Cruises in 09 and 10 and a 40 night Canada / New England cruise (sectors available).
  13. New Facilities on Balmoral The Palms Café, the new lounge, the new Morning Light British pub and the new pool area.. Complete with Marquee pool bar.
  14. Braemar became the 3rd ship in the fleet in 2001 (formerly Crown Dynasty).. and was stretched last summer to become a 900 passenger capacity ship. The stretch added 510 cabins and suites many with balconies. Elegant but not stuffy best describes the atmosphere onboard. Expansive windows, large open decks and a spectacular five deck atrium create a sense of space noticeably absent from so many of today’s cruising giants. Her stylish mood is enhanced by polished woods and gleaming brass, set off by subtle lighting and mellow hues. Her facilities were also enhanced during the refit – new Restaurant, a new British pub –2 new swimming pools. This summer will see Braemar embarking on a host of itineraries departing from Dover, from the Norwegian Fjords to the Mediterranean, all before she sails across the Atlantic to winter sun and her annual Caribbean season. Julia Weiss from Travel Trade recently wrote a beautiful article on the Braemar. Read the Feb 9 issue.

  16. Sister ship to the Black Watch.. And originally designed for world cruising. Boudicca boasts a choice of large cabins and suites, many of which are outside cabins so passengers on longer voyages can enjoy them to the fullest. The ship joined the fleet in 2006 and was completely refurbished; the interior has an elegant, modern design which perfectly complements the ship’s classic styling. Boudicca carries around 800 passengers. She mainly departs from UK ports and her itineraries include the Med. Canary Islands, Africa, Baltic, fjords and the Arctic. She is just coming to the end of a Caribbean program from Barbados.

  19. Black Watch was built in 1972 for the original Royal Viking Line – sleek lines and elegant design give the ship a feeling of traditional sophistication. She has an average occupancy of 750 passengers (to max 800). In 2005 she underwent extensive refit and refurbish including being re-engineered to become more efficient as well as more economical. Ideally suited for long voyages as well as shorter European cruises. The ship will embark on number of itineraries including Norway, the Baltic, the Med., the Canaries and the Caribbean. She is currently in the middle of an epic 97 night World Cruise.

  21. Our passengers tend to be of the 55+ age group..high level of repeat passengers, well travelled, wanting a more intimate cruise experience. We cater well to the single passengers with over 200 true single cabins across fleet, dance hosts and single get together’s onboard. We also love couples and groups. Not really targeted to the family market…or younger passengers – other cruise lines do it better, so we kindly let them.
