I have known Tariq for more than 11 years,initially asa student-athlete at Bowdoin Collegeand later
ashis supervisor and a collaborator at Harvard.
After his successfulco-captaincy,during the 1998-99 squashseasonat Bowdoin, I hired Tariq to be
my CoachingAssistant at Harvard. His strong leadership skills,international squashbackground as
well ashis prior experienceas a counselorat the HarvardJuniorSquashCamp,madehim a valuable
addition to my coachingstaff. He was thoughtful, sincere and open-minded in his work with the
junior varsity men'sand women'steams.
I rehired Tariq in 2005 as a campcounselor,after his careerin internationalaffairs,when he felt a
strong desireto return to his first passionofsquash.Sincethen Tariq hasgrown from strengthto
strength in a variety of coachingand administrative roles. When working at my squashcampsat
Harvard, Tariq was promoted from his role of counselorto administrator and then finally to
Technical Director. His exceptionalorganizational,communication and interpersonal skills resulted
in us successfullypassingthe Commonwealthof Massachusettsrecreationalcampinspectionsevery
year. Moreover, he supervised the coachingstaff with a down-to-earth, hands-on approach thereby
creating a positive camp experiencefor all.
RecognizingTariq's eventplanningskills,I recommendedthat he be a member of the team that
stagedthe 2006 Women's Howe Cupat Harvard.Heworked sideby sidewith the ExecutiveDirector
of the CollegeSquashAssociationto deliver a carefully executedevent with a high level of
appreciation from all those who participated.
GivenTariq's commitment to service,asdemonstratedby his United NationsVolunteerexperience,I
was eagerfor him to spearheadKidsquash,a community squashprogram implementedat Harvard.
During his 5 years,Tariq was instrumentalin establishingKidsquashasan independent501c3,
nonprofit organizationrecognizedby USSquashand MassachusettsSquashservingover 100
children from all socio-economicbackgrounds.OnceagainTariq'sleadershipskillswere evidentin
his ability to strengthen the Greater Boston community through sport.
Furthermore, Tariq's seamlessmultitasking is another skill that impressed me. Over the last 5 years,
of him working with me at Harvard, he held part-time coachingpositions at Tufts University, Phillips
AcademyAndover,ConcordAcademyand CommonwealthSchool.In addition,he pursueda part-time
Mastersin Educationwith a specializationin coachingat BostonUniversity.
Tariq'spassionfor squash,commitment to serviceand dedicationto continuouslearningwill make
him an assetto any organization. I highly recommend Tariq without reservation.
